Politburo backs President Mnangagwa’s leadership beyond 2028.

ZANU PF’s Politburo has unanimously endorsed President Dr @edmnangagwa to remain Party President and First Secretary beyond 2028, a move described by Spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa as vital for unity, continuity and stability.

Speaking today after Wednesday’s meeting in Harare, Cde Mutsvangwa said the decision follows the passage of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, which settled questions around succession and aligned party structures with the national constitution. He argued that the amendment provides certainty of leadership, strengthens political stability and secures the economic progress delivered under the Second Republic.

Cde Mutsvangwa stressed that Parliament had thoroughly debated the Bill, with overwhelming support in both houses before the President signed it into law. He said the outcome reassures citizens and signals to the world that Zimbabwe can manage succession smoothly, without destabilising its political or economic systems.

He dismissed detractors, declaring that predictions of instability have been silenced, and insisted the endorsement marks the beginning of Zimbabwe’s long‑term economic resurgence.

*ZANU PF Politburo Unanimously Endorses President Mnangagwa Beyond 2028*

The ZANU PF Politburo has unanimously endorsed His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to continue as Party President and First Secretary beyond 2028, in a decisive move aimed at entrenching unity, continuity and national stability. Announcing the resolution at a post-Politburo press briefing in Harare yesterday, Secretary for Information and Publicity Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said the decision commanded consensus across the entire Politburo.

The endorsement is further reinforced by resolutions from provincial structures, notably ZANU PF Mashonaland West Province. At a Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting convened at Chinhoyi University of Technology on Saturday, 22 August 2026 and chaired by Provincial Chairman Cde Mary Mliswa Chikoka, the Province resolved that President Mnangagwa should continue to lead the country beyond 2030. The meeting further resolved that the ZANU PF Constitution be reviewed and harmonized with the amended Constitution of Zimbabwe, including provisions governing the tenure and electoral cycles of Party structures.
