By Sam Mupedziswa | Zimfocus Online News
ZANU PF Matabeleland South Provincial Chairman and Minister of Industry and Commerce, Hon Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu, has engaged residents of Ward 15, Makhubu, in Mangwe District, urging communities to openly discuss local challenges and work with their leaders to find practical solutions that improve service delivery.
The meeting provided an opportunity for residents to raise concerns affecting their daily lives, including water shortages, infrastructure development, agricultural challenges and community welfare. Welcoming the delegation, ZANU PF district chairman Cde Shunyi expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as an important opportunity for direct interaction between residents and provincial leadership.
Hon Ndhlovu emphasised that effective leadership requires listening to communities and ensuring their concerns reach the relevant authorities. He highlighted the need to address water shortages and improve infrastructure, pointing to ongoing road rehabilitation works in Bulilima and Mangwe as part of broader efforts to improve connectivity and support economic activity.
On agriculture, Hon Ndhlovu urged farmers to prepare for potentially unfavourable weather conditions, carefully consider planting schedules and embrace drought-resistant crops suited to dry areas. He also encouraged families to support children during difficult farming seasons, stressing the importance of building resilience and safeguarding household food security.
The provincial chairman reaffirmed the importance of community engagement and development in advancing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda. He noted that continued dialogue, improved service delivery and agricultural resilience were essential to transforming livelihoods. Giving the vote of thanks, Chief Sangulube expressed gratitude for the engagement and encouraged residents to work with traditional and political leadership in addressing challenges affecting their communities.

MINISTER MAVETERA CHALLENGES POTRAZ TO DELIVER TANGIBLE RESULTS
By Sam Mupedziswa | Zimfocus Online News
INFORMATION Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Hon Tatenda A. Mavetera has challenged the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to translate its regulatory mandate into tangible improvements in connectivity, affordable data and consumer protection.
Speaking at POTRAZ’s 10th Annual General Meeting in Harare yesterday, where Deputy Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Hon Dingumuzi Phuti was also in attendance, Hon Mavetera said the regulator’s decade-long milestone should mark the beginning of a new phase focused on measurable results.
She said the success of regulation should not be judged solely by licences issued or revenue collected, but by the extent to which ordinary Zimbabweans benefit from accessible, affordable and reliable telecommunications services.
“For ten years, POTRAZ has overseen the growth of Zimbabwe’s telecommunications, postal and courier sector. But milestones are not just about looking back; they are about asking what next?” she said.
Hon Mavetera said regulation must deliver practical benefits to communities, including affordable internet access, reliable mobile networks, connectivity in rural schools and clinics, and stronger safeguards for consumers.
The Minister’s remarks come as Zimbabwe continues to expand its digital economy, with telecommunications infrastructure and internet connectivity increasingly important to education, business, public service delivery and innovation.
She challenged POTRAZ to ensure that the expansion of digital services is matched by improvements in service quality and affordability, particularly for communities that remain underserved.
The regulator is expected to play a central role in extending broadband access through the Universal Service Fund, which supports telecommunications development in areas where commercial investment may be limited.
Hon Mavetera also emphasised accountability & transparency, saying she had raised critical questions concerning the authority’s financial, compliance and audit reports during the AGM.
She said public institutions must remain accountable for their operations & the use of resources entrusted to them.
“As Minister, I was asking the tough questions on the financial, compliance & audit reports because accountability to the public is not optional,” she said.
The focus on accountability comes as Government seeks to strengthen institutional performance and ensure that public bodies deliver measurable benefits to citizens.
POTRAZ regulates Zimbabwe’s telecommunications, postal and courier services sector and has an important role in promoting competition, protecting consumers and supporting the development of communications infrastructure.
The authority also has responsibilities in data protection, cybersecurity and digital safety, areas that have become increasingly significant as individuals, businesses and public institutions rely more heavily on online platforms.
Hon Mavetera has called for stronger oversight of telecommunications operators, improved monitoring of network performance and decisive action where service providers fail to meet regulatory standards.
She has also emphasised the need to protect consumers against digital fraud, identity theft and the unlawful use of personal information.
The Minister said the next phase of POTRAZ’s work should prioritise results that can be felt by households, businesses, schools and communities across the country.
The AGM provided an opportunity to reflect on the authority’s decade of regulatory work while considering how it can respond to emerging technologies and the changing needs of consumers.

NYASHA MUTANGAMIRA ENCOURAGES SINGLE WOMEN TO EMBRACE THEIR WORTH
By Sam Mupedziswa | Zimfocus Online News
Television personality Nyasha Mutangamira has encouraged single women to recognise their worth and remain confident in their abilities, emphasising that relationship challenges and marital status do not define a person’s value or determine their future.
Speaking during an engagement with single women, an event organized by Zimbabwe liberated girl child in action, Mutangamira said being single should never be viewed as a limitation, noting that people in different relationship situations face challenges that do not diminish their worth as individuals.
She highlighted that marriage does not automatically guarantee happiness, adding that everyone has personal struggles regardless of their relationship status.
“Whatever happens to you, whatever situation you find yourself in, it does not take anything away from you as a person. It does not change who you are, it does not alter your destiny, and it does not stop you from doing that which you want to do,” said Mutangamira.
She urged women not to allow difficult relationship experiences to undermine their confidence or prevent them from pursuing their dreams and ambitions.
Mutangamira, however, acknowledged that dealing with the realisation that a relationship is no longer working can be emotionally difficult, stressing the importance of being honest about the challenges involved.
She began reflecting on the difficult process of recognising when a relationship may no longer have a future, opening up a broader conversation about the emotional experiences women face when navigating relationships and personal transitions.
Her message offered encouragement to single women, reminding them that their identities, ambitions and potential remain intact regardless of their relationship circumstances.
The engagement provided an opportunity to reflect on self-worth, emotional resilience and the importance of creating a society where women are valued for who they are rather than judged by their marital status.
Through its empowerment initiatives, ZLGCA seeks to encourage women to recognise their potential, strengthen their support networks and participate actively in the country’s socio-economic development.
The gathering concluded with a message of hope, unity and solidarity, encouraging single mothers to rise above social stigma, pursue their aspirations and support one another in building better futures for themselves and their children.
The event served as a reminder that single mothers deserve dignity, understanding and opportunities to thrive, while their children deserve supportive environments in which they can grow and succeed.

ZLGCA CHAMPIONS SINGLE MOTHERS’ EMPOWERMENT
By Sam Mupedziswa | Zimfocus Online News
The founder of Zimbabwe Liberated Girl Child in Action (ZLGCA), Mrs Annah Mabhena, has called for greater support, empowerment and recognition of single mothers, saying their circumstances should not define their worth or limit their participation in the country’s socio-economic development.
Mrs Mabhena made the remarks during a meet-and-greet gathering with single mothers held on Friday as part of activities commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event brought together women from different backgrounds to share experiences, encourage one another and discuss ways of addressing the challenges faced by single mothers.
In her address, Mrs Mabhena said ZLGCA was committed to promoting sisterhood, solidarity and practical interventions aimed at improving the lives of single mothers.
She noted that rapid technological developments and changing social practices were increasingly encouraging individualism, warning that communities risked losing the African values of Ubuntu and communalism if people abandoned their shared responsibility towards one another.
“The African traditional concepts of communalism and Ubuntu can only be eroded if we forget that we are all brothers and sisters. I want you to know that we are together as a sisterhood with our brothers, devoted to finding solutions and interventions to support the single mother in her challenges,” she said.
Mrs Mabhena said ZLGCA was determined to ensure that single mothers were heard, supported and given opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
She emphasised that the organisation was not promoting single motherhood, but rather encouraging and empowering women who found themselves raising children without a husband.
“As ZLGCA, we are not here to encourage single motherhood, but we want to encourage single mothers. There is a difference,” she said.
Mrs Mabhena observed that although society often treated people as though they faced similar challenges, single mothers experienced particular difficulties that required targeted interventions and understanding.
She highlighted the stigma, neglect and ridicule that some single mothers encounter, adding that many were forced to balance personal challenges, family responsibilities, employment and the demands of raising children with limited resources.
According to Mrs Mabhena, these pressures can contribute to emotional exhaustion, financial difficulties and difficult life choices.
She said ZLGCA wanted to create a supportive environment in which women could openly discuss their experiences, identify solutions and pursue opportunities for personal growth and economic empowerment.
The founder urged the women to remain determined despite their circumstances, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping their futures and contributing to Zimbabwe’s development.
“ZLGCA is here today to listen and support. Rise up, girl child, take your stand and be counted,” she said.
Mrs Mabhena also outlined the organisation’s purpose and empowerment programmes, encouraging participants to take advantage of initiatives designed to support single mothers and improve their socio-economic circumstances.
The gathering also incorporated Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, providing an opportunity to encourage women to prioritise their health and well-being.
Television personality Nyasha Mutangamira, who was among the speakers at the gathering, encouraged single mothers to maintain their self-worth and dignity regardless of their marital circumstances.

Drawing from her personal experiences, Mutangamira shared lessons on balancing education, employment and family responsibilities. She spoke about the importance of remaining focused on personal ambitions while navigating life’s challenges.
She urged women to establish personal standards, believe in themselves and understand that difficult experiences do not diminish their identity or potential.
Mutangamira also encouraged married women not to allow challenges within their relationships to define them as individuals, emphasising that every woman should maintain her sense of identity and continue pursuing personal development.
Her message centred on resilience, self-belief and the importance of remaining committed to one’s goals despite life’s uncertainties.
Radio personality, presenter and producer Brenda Ndlovu inspired the gathering by sharing her journey as a single mother of two children and her determination to pursue education despite the challenges she faced.
Ndlovu, who has worked with Skyz Metro FM in Bulawayo, has previously spoken publicly about her experiences as a young mother who returned to school to pursue her dreams.
During the gathering, she recounted how she continued pursuing her education while raising her children, including sitting for her Ordinary Level examinations when she already had two children.
She explained that after initially struggling with Mathematics, she persevered and continued working towards her educational goals until she succeeded.
Her determination eventually saw her obtain a degree, a milestone she attributed to hard work, patience and refusing to surrender to difficult circumstances.
Ndlovu’s journey demonstrates that motherhood and personal challenges do not have to mark the end of one’s ambitions.
After spending 10 years as a single mother, she also announced that she had recently become engaged.
Her testimony encouraged women not to lose hope because of their present circumstances or rush into relationships and marriages out of desperation.
She urged them to exercise patience, invest in themselves and allow relationships to develop at the right time.
Ndlovu’s message reinforced the importance of education, personal development and self-reliance, encouraging women to continue working towards their aspirations while raising their children.
ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Cde Raymond Mtomba also addressed the gathering, sharing perspectives on the realities of raising children as a single parent.
He acknowledged the difficulties associated with bringing up children without a partner, noting that single parents often face numerous responsibilities while striving to provide for their families.
Cde Mtomba encouraged the women to remain strong and recognise that, although single parenthood comes with challenges, individuals can still work towards building stable and fulfilling lives.
He also highlighted the need for society to appreciate the experiences of single parents and support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of children and their caregivers.
His remarks reinforced the importance of practical assistance, resilience and collective responsibility in addressing the challenges experienced by single-parent households.
The event was attended by members of the ZANU PF Youth League, led by Cde Mehluli Mlotshwa, as well as the national chairperson of Hairdressers for ED, Cde Kerenzia Dangwaira.
Their participation reflected the gathering’s emphasis on community engagement, women’s empowerment and the importance of creating platforms where women can share experiences and explore opportunities for personal and economic development.
The meeting provided an opportunity for single mothers to connect, learn from one another and discuss the realities of raising children while pursuing their personal ambitions.

PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA ARRIVES AT GZU FOR 20TH GRADUATION CEREMONY
President Mnangagwa has arrived at the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) main campus where he is presiding over the institution's 20th graduation ceremony.
The President, who is also the GZU Chancellor, will confer degrees and certificates to 3,496 graduands.
Performance contracts, he said, should reflect these commitments, while the Ministry’s strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation function should track implementation and identify delays requiring corrective action.
Minister Ndhlovu stressed that accountability should go beyond completing administrative procedures to demonstrating tangible results.
“We need to know what has been achieved, what is delayed, why it is delayed and what corrective action is being taken,” he said.
He said departments should strengthen collaboration, share successful approaches and respond promptly where performance fell short of expectations.
The Minister also called for resources to be aligned with agreed priorities and for human resource management to support the development of a capable, motivated and collaborative workforce.
He urged participants to use the workshop to agree on practical solutions, strengthen coordination and remove constraints affecting production and investment.
Ultimately, he said, the Ministry’s success would be measured by stronger enterprises, more competitive products, expanding markets, productive employment and improved livelihoods for Zimbabweans.
Minister Ndhlovu officially declared the 2026 Strategic Planning Review Workshop open, calling for a shared commitment to implementing the Ministry’s objectives in support of national economic development.

GOVERNMENT TARGETS STRONGER INDUSTRIAL GROWTH UNDER VISION 2030
By Sam Mupedziswa | Zimfocus Online News
BULAWAYO — Government is stepping up efforts to accelerate industrialisation, strengthen local manufacturing and expand Zimbabwe’s export markets, with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce prioritising measurable results under Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
Speaking during the Ministry’s 2026 Strategic Planning Review Workshop at Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo, Minister of Industry and Commerce Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu said the focus was on translating national economic policies into practical interventions that increase production, improve competitiveness and create employment opportunities.
The workshop brought together the Minister State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Hon Judith Ncube, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable R.I. Modi, Permanent Secretary Ambassador. Chifamba, legislators, senior Government officials, heads of State-Owned Enterprises, development partners, captains of industry and commerce, and other stakeholders.
Minister Ndhlovu said the Ministry’s strategic planning process was critical in aligning departmental work plans, budgets and performance contracts with the Government’s economic development objectives.
“Our task is not simply to plan activities, but to agree on practical actions that strengthen production, improve competitiveness, expand trade and create opportunities for our people,” he said.
The Minister said Zimbabwe’s economy had recorded encouraging signs of growth, with gross domestic product expanding by 8.3 percent in 2025, while manufacturing capacity utilisation rose to 61.2 percent in the first half of 2026, from 57.3 percent in 2025.
Manufactured exports reached approximately US$593 million by August 2026, while the commercial sector contributed around 10.8 percent of GDP in the second quarter of the year.
He said these developments provided a foundation for further economic transformation, although challenges relating to energy, financing, technology, logistics and production costs continued to affect industrial performance.
“The priority now is to consolidate growth and translate it into sustained production, increased exports, productive jobs and broader participation in the economy,” Minister Ndhlovu said.
NEW POLICY FRAMEWORKS TO DRIVE INDUSTRIALISATION
The Minister said Cabinet had approved four key policy frameworks designed to strengthen industrial development, local production, consumer protection and product quality.
These are the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2 (2026–2030), the Local Content Strategy (2026–2035), the Consumer Protection Policy (2026–2030) and the Zimbabwe National Quality Policy (2026–2030).
The policies will be launched in the quarter of 2027, with the Ministry expected to focus on practical implementation and measurable outcomes.
The Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2 sets targets that include annual manufacturing growth of 2.6 percent and a US$12 billion contribution to GDP.
Minister Ndhlovu said the targets should guide the Ministry’s programmes, investment facilitation efforts and performance assessments.
He emphasised that industrialisation remained central to Zimbabwe’s ambition of attaining upper-middle-income economy status by 2030.
The Local Content Strategy, meanwhile, seeks to strengthen the participation of Zimbabwean businesses in supply chains, promote local procurement and retain more economic value within the country.
The Minister called for closer cooperation between industry and State-Owned Enterprises to identify procurement opportunities for local suppliers and address challenges preventing capable businesses from accessing major markets.
@edmnangagwa@nqo_nn@Min_of_IC@InfoMinZW@RModiByoSouth@Jamwanda2@nickmangwana@MoeChanda@2023Focus@MoFA_ZW@HonSakupwanyaK@CMNhlansi@oczmk
He said local companies needed support to meet the required standards, quality specifications and production volumes to compete effectively.
The Minister said consumer protection and quality assurance were essential to building confidence in the domestic market while improving the competitiveness of Zimbabwean products in regional and international markets.
He noted that consumers needed protection from unsafe products and unfair business practices, while compliant businesses required a fair and competitive operating environment.
Standards, testing, certification, competition oversight and effective enforcement were identified as important components of a trusted marketplace.
Minister Ndhlovu also called for stronger coordination in combating smuggling, which he said undermined compliant businesses, while ensuring that legitimate trade continued to be facilitated.
He urged departments and agencies to adopt evidence-based approaches to resolving challenges affecting investment and business operations.
Where regulatory bottlenecks delay investment, the Ministry should work with the responsible institutions to resolve them, while businesses struggling to meet standards should be assisted to comply.
The drive to strengthen industrial competitiveness also comes as Zimbabwe assumes leadership of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), providing an opportunity to advance regional economic integration and expand market access for local producers.
The Ministry’s priorities on industrialisation, value addition, quality standards and export development are important to positioning Zimbabwean businesses to compete more effectively within the regional market.
Improved product quality, stronger local supply chains and competitive production costs will be essential in enabling manufacturers to take advantage of regional trade opportunities.
The broader objective is to ensure that industrial growth translates into increased exports, investment, employment and stronger commercial links between Zimbabwe and other regional economies.
Minister Ndhlovu also commended institutions under the Ministry for their contribution to industrial development, competitiveness and consumer protection.
He praised the National Competitiveness Commission for successfully convening its summit in Bulawayo, which provided a platform for discussing Zimbabwe’s competitiveness and reforms needed to improve the business environment.
The Consumer Protection Commission was also commended for hosting the 2026 Annual Consumer Conference in Gokwe, bringing consumer protection issues into sharper focus beyond the country’s major urban centres.
The Minister congratulated the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Company for successfully hosting the 2026 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, describing the event as an important platform for showcasing local products, connecting businesses and opening commercial opportunities.
He urged the institution to build on this year’s achievements as preparations for the 2027 edition get underway.
Minister Ndhlovu also applauded the Standards Association of Zimbabwe for winning election to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Council for the 2027–2029 term in Paris, France.
He said the achievement reflected Zimbabwe’s participation in international standardisation and encouraged the institution to continue strengthening the country’s contribution to global standards development.
The Minister said the successful implementation of the Ministry’s strategic plan would depend on disciplined performance management, clear responsibilities and effective monitoring.
He called on every department and State-Owned Enterprise to develop work plans containing measurable indicators, clear deliverables, realistic timelines and defined resource requirements.
