This morning, while the world was focused on the World Cup, we received the tragic news that Mr. Lenminsang, a Village Volunteer from Kolchung Village who was present at Songkong Village, Henglep Subdivision, Manipur, was reportedly killed by Security Forces while he was carrying out his regular duty.

A Village Volunteer’s responsibility is to protect and serve the community, especially in situations where people feel unsafe and vulnerable. It is deeply concerning that a person who was standing in the line of duty to safeguard civilians has reportedly lost his life.

We strongly condemn the reported killing of an innocent volunteer. The lives of civilians and community defenders must be protected, not treated as threats. Those responsible Security Forces must be held accountable through a fair and impartial investigation.

Why are the very forces responsible for protecting civilians failing to protect them and instead becoming a source of fear? The people deserve justice, security, and equal protection without bias.

Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of Mr. Lenminsang. May his sacrifice never be forgotten.

Absolutely horrifying and enraging. A 23 year-old Kuki woman from Churachandpur district, Manipur, has alleged that she was subjected to years of brutal physical and mental torture, starvation, confinement and assault while working as a nanny-cum-housekeeper at the residence of an IIM Bangalore professor and his wife inside the institute campus. No human being deserves to be treated with such cruelty and degradation. The sheer inhumanity of allegedly starving, isolating, and abusing a young woman far away from her home is sickening.
This case also raises serious concerns about the safety and security of young girls and women from the Northeast and other vulnerable communities who leave their homes to work in cities across India in search of livelihood and dignity. Many travel alone, without support systems, trusting employers for safety, only to face exploitation, abuse, racism, and silence behind closed doors. If educated and influential people can allegedly commit such acts, what protection do these young women truly have?
There must be stricter monitoring of domestic work conditions, stronger legal safeguards, and swift justice for victims. Young women working outside their state should never have to live in fear of violence, humiliation, or captivity while trying to earn an honest living.

In a democratic country, the right to protest to express public grievances against the government is legitimate. However, a bandh organised by the newly formed FNCC that specifically targets a particular Kuki community and blocks their lifeline is a clear violation of human rights. This is an appeal to the Honourable Governor of Manipur and the central government to take swift action against the supporters of this bandh on humanitarian grounds.

During this President's rule in Manipur, where are the central and state forces now? Any ugly incident that comes out of this case, can the government bear all the responsibility?

For 21 months since the start of the conflict, Kuki -Zo areas have been denied development funds, abandoned by the Manipur Meitei centric government. Yet, from New lamka, D.Phailen to countless villages across the southern and northern Kuki hills, the community has rebuilt roads with their own contributions.

Even the vital Lamka-Kangpokpi route the only link for the Kuki-Zo community constructed without a single rupee from the state.

If the Kuki-Zo people can govern, develop, and sustain themselves without Manipur’s interference, what remains to be decided? The @BJP4India govt must acknowledge this political reality and grant full autonomy to the Kuki-Zo people so that peace can prevail in Manipur.

Only through self-governance can lasting stability be achieved, allowing the Meitei and Kuki communities to coexist as good neighbors.
