My friend, #MsRachel, asked me to share a #HalfHeartsForGaza post. I debated whether to smile to encourage people or to allow my face to express some of my feelings about the devastation that Gaza is facing every single moment of every single day.

And with the old new news about Netanyahu’s plans to take full control of Gaza, my post today is one of lament and calling on U.S. legislators, including @POTUS, to prevent further catastrophe and genocide. We can facilitate true peace, which includes the human rights of all people being respected and protected.

For the sake of our children. For the sake of #NeverAgain being an assertion that we will not allow any people group, religious group, or ethnicity to be dehumanized and decimated.

A few days ago in the Lincoln Heights area of Cincinnati, a group of neo-Nazis—with police assistance—gathered near the community. The Black residents stood their ground and ran them off. Later that night, some of the Nazis snuck back in and vandalized cars belonging to people in the neighborhood. In response, the Black community has organized armed patrols to protect their neighborhood from these cowardly attacks.

Activist Dion Diamond sitting on a counter stool during a civil rights sit-in, Arlington, 1960. He sat there being insulted, harassed, hit and was arrested multiple times for doing it and he’s still alive today.

—It was in the year 1960, at the height of racial segregation in the United States, Dion Diamond, a black man, had grown tired of having his rights constantly trampled on.

"Crazy Diamond" they called him at that time, this man entered the premises and went directly to the white area, sat down and stayed there without flinching. Sometimes groups of people gathered around him, threatening and insulting him and "Crazy Diamond" kept sitting without moving an inch.

Dion said "I would sit down, and they would tell me that they couldn't attend to me and I didn't move, groups of up to 15 or 20 people would come to tell me to get out and I didn't flinch, I would only leave if they threatened to call the police"

Just by sitting down, this activist made many people stand up and fight for change, with an act as simple as sitting down.
