IDPs from Shire & Endabaguna have began to be returned to Mai Aini, Mai Ambessa, Medhanialem & Wuhedet in the North Western Zone. Over 1542 IDPs have so far been repatriated. Through constitutional jurisdiction, security of these IDPs falls with the Tigray Administration.
Today I joined Ambassador Shibata Hirinori of @JapanEthiopia in a groundbreaking event at Negash(Nejashi) for the rehabilitation of an elementary school and a high school totally destroyed during the war on Tigray. The Ambassador underscored Japanese government commitment to help in the recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Tigray. Japan has since the signing of the Pretoria agreement been supporting Tigray on a number of areas including healthcare, education, water and sanitation, supply of improved seeds as well as in the reintegration of combatants. The Embassy has also been collaborating with @UNICEFEthiopia & other agencies in similar endeavors in Tigray. These programs are expected to be further enhanced in the next two or three years.
