Some things are worth the drive. A little Texas Hill Country scenery, the smell of smoke in the air, and a plate of barbecue that makes you forget all about the miles.
— ce n’étaient pas des manifestants, ni des émeutiers, ni des casseurs, mais précisément des pillards africains, leur but étant de s’emparer de marchandises et de prendre part à une razzia générale appelée "17/10/26" ;
— noirs aux deux tiers et arabes à un tiers environ, ce qui est une spécificité de Châtelet et ce qui correspond aux proportions des émeutes de Nahel ; la seule exception que j’ai vue en quatre heures de pillage a été trois semi-clochards opportunistes polonais qui ramassaient des paquets abandonnés au sol ;
— l’effet de masse était saisissant : ils étaient en nombre effrayant, de très grands groupes et des groupes plus petits, dans toutes les rues de Châtelet, vêtus de noir, la tête couverte de cagoules ou de capuches, hommes et femmes, petits et grands, gros et maigres, pas spécialement guerriers pour la plupart ;
— les mesures habituelles de rétablissement de l’ordre ne pouvaient pas empêcher une razzia d’une telle ampleur : les CRS ont fait ce qu’ils ont pu mais Châtelet a été un labyrinthe dans lequel les souris voleuses, volant de Franprix à Carhartt, couraient généralement plus vite que les chats CRS ;
— par conséquent je ne crois pas du tout au fait que l’on aurait laissé les pilleurs piller pour décrédibiliser le mouvement, les pilleurs étaient tout simplement beaucoup trop nombreux pour être contenus par des CRS fantassins, du moins à Châtelet ;
— aucun casseur d’extrême-gauche ni de blackblocs parmi eux (de temps en temps l’on en voyait un avec son masque à gaz, mais qui ne faisait que passer à bicyclette) ;
— les pillards procèdent par vagues : d’abord les jeunes les plus audacieux, qui empochent le plus possible de marchandise ; ensuite les femmes, qui se partagent le butin dans la rue ; ensuite les pillards-badauds, qui ramassent le surplus abandonné sur le trottoir ; puis les clochards, les ivrognes, etc., qui ramassent les derniers maillots de football dans le caniveau (j’ai pu observer le manège de très près pendant des heures) ;
— les pilleurs apportent les habits à des comparses (en général des femmes), qui cachent le butin sous une voiture ; quand les CRS chargent, ils détalent ; ils reviennent quelques minutes plus tard et recommencent ; au bout d’un moment tous s’échangent habits et sacs et chaussures et boîtes de téléphones, en général dans une bonne humeur inquiète ;
— le but est de récupérer le plus possible d’articles tout en se gardant d’être encombré, de manière à pouvoir détaler au premier CRS ;
— conséquemment l’on pouvait voir hier soir un grand nombre de pilleurs-badauds solitaires regarder systématiquement sous chaque voiture, cherchant à récupérer le butin des autres ;
— Les articles pillés sont d’abord les habits, en très grand nombre (Châtelet à l’heure où j’écris, mais La Madeleine aussi, est jonché de cintres), puis les chaussures, puis les petits articles de luxe (parfum), puis les téléphones ;
— le butin est transporté à la main, surtout par les femmes, qui parfois avançaient difficilement tant leur chargement était encombrant, mais parfois aussi, plus industriellement, dans des poubelles que l’on traîne, et bien sûr, j’imagine, mais je ne l’ai pas vu, dans des voitures ;
— une fois tous les magasins pillables pillés les pilleurs sont restés dans le quartier, cherchant à entrer là où ils le pouvaient ;
— lorsque la police a commencé à sérieusement intervenir à Châtelet, vers deux heures et demie du matin, les pilleurs ont fui comme ils l’ont pu et sont rentrés là où c’était possible, dans les immeubles, les cours, par les toits, souvent avec un certain affolement ;
Five years ago, an important miscarriage of justice occurred.
The story began in April 2018 when David Sabatini, an MIT, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), and Whitehead Institute scientist and professor began a consensual intimate relationship with Dr. Kristin Knouse, a principal investigator with her own lab at the Whitehead.
By January 2020, David sought to end the relationship, but Knouse apparently did not want it to end. When David thereafter started a new relationship and Knouse learned about it, she began a secretive campaign to destroy him by attempting to end his career as a scientist. She did so by damaging his name, reputation, and that of his family with false sexual harassment and other claims, thereby making him unemployable.
Knouse conspired with Dr. Ruth Lehmann, the then- and still current Director (i.e., President) of the Whitehead Institute, in her efforts to destroy Sabatini.
The record presented in court demonstrated that Dr. Lehmann committed to Knouse in October of 2020 that she would fire David. Dr. Lehmann made this commitment to Knouse before any investigation of the facts had taken place.
Seven months after committing to fire him, in March of 2021, Dr. Lehmann, on behalf of the Whitehead, hired the law firm of Hinckley, Allen, Snyder (HAS) to undergo an investigation of David. By July 2021, HAS shared a draft of its conclusions with MIT, HHMI, and the Whitehead, but not with David or his lawyers.
On the morning of August 19, 2021, David for the first time received the more than 200-page investigative report and a calendar invite for a meeting the following day with Dr. Lehmann, the president of HHMI, and the HR directors of both institutions. The report was riddled with errors and unsupported claims about David and his relationship with Knouse.
When David's lawyer immediately thereafter reached out to Whitehead counsel to ask whether David was about to be fired, they confirmed that he would be terminated at the meeting.
On the advice of his lawyer, David immediately resigned from HHMI and the Whitehead rather than attend the meeting. HHMI did not accept his resignation, choosing instead to fire him. MIT put David on leave and ultimately revoked his tenure. David thereafter resigned from MIT.
On August 20, 2021, one day after sending David the HAS report and before David had the opportunity to dispute the facts and the conclusions of the investigation, Dr. Lehmann emailed all employees at the Whitehead informing them that David had violated a number of Whitehead policies "including policies concerning sexual harassment."
The Lehmann public email, David's resignation and firing, and Dr. Lehmann's claims about David's sexual harassment exploded into a major global scandal covered in mainstream, social, and scientific media around the world as it had all of the requisite ingredients:
An attractive target with David, one of the most important scientists of his generation in line for the Nobel Prize, a purported inappropriate sexual relationship with a younger female colleague, and a political and institutional environment where punishing a man for sexual harassment advanced the career and reputation of the person and/or institution that destroyed the career and reputation of the accused, regardless of the validity of the allegations.
As a result of Knouse's claims, Lehmann's sham investigation, and the media onslaught that followed, David lost all sources of income and his reputation was destroyed. All prizes he had been previously been awarded were withdrawn. He was removed from all scientific advisory and other honorary roles other than as a member of our family foundation's (the Pershing Square Foundation's) scientific advisory board.
When I initially learned of the news about David in the summer of 2021, I hired him as a consultant to the Pershing Square Foundation as I believed our small foundation team would benefit greatly by his insights (and he now had the time to help us), and he needed the money to support his family.
At my request and under a confidentiality agreement, David provided us with many hundreds of pages of documents including texts and other communications with Knouse, the investigative report, and David's responses to the allegations so that we could do our own evaluation of Knouse's claims.
I and a member of our family office's legal team carefully reviewed the documents. After a careful review of the empirical documents -- in particular the texts between Knouse and David -- it became abundantly clear that Knouse's actions were that of an angry and jilted lover, not those of a sexually harassed junior colleague. And the investigative report appeared designed to deliver a pre-ordained conclusion rather than a dispassionate fact-based analysis.
The impact of the firings and the destruction of his career and reputation on David and his family was extraordinarily devastating, so much so that we became increasingly concerned that he might commit suicide.
[In order to make sure that David's important scientific research would continue, in February 2023, in partnership with an anonymous donor, we funded $25 million to support David launching a new lab. As you might expect, I was reviled in the press, in scientific journals, and on social media for doing so and for supporting a so-called sex offender.]
On October 20, 2021, David filed suit against Knouse alleging defamation and tortious interference in his career and his contractual arrangements. Thereafter, Knouse brought counterclaims against David.
Today, nearly five years to the date of the filing of the suit, he has finally received justice.
Today, a 13-person jury (seven men and six women) of David Sabatini's peers (12 jurors plus an alternate) unanimously determined that David proved that Kristin Knouse defamed him, tortiously interfered with his contractual relationships (his entire career as a scientist), and tortiously interfered with his prospective advantageous relationships (his future employment). The jury awarded him nearly $10 million in damages including interest.
The jury rejected all of Knouse's claims including her claims that David engaged in quid pro quo sexual harassment and created a sexually hostile work environment.
While five years is a very long time to live under a reputational cloud, justice was finally served today for David, but not completely in my view.
To this day, Dr. Ruth Lehmann remains Director of the Whitehead Institute. Dr. Lehmann worked alongside Dr. Knouse to destroy David Sabatini, an acclaimed scientist and professor. She did not follow due process before she intentionally destroyed David's career and reputation.
Dr. Lehmann nearly killed David with her actions, as had we not rescued David by finding him employment, supporting him publicly to buffer the reputational damage, and supporting his recovery, he could have ended his life and left his son without a father before the world understood what had transpired here.
And the reputational damage was not just to David.
David's brother, Bernardo Sabatini, is one of the most important neuroscientists in the world. To this day, he has had to deal with a large cloud over his family name and reputation. Recently, when the new CEO of our brain institute mentioned that Bernardo Sabatini was on our board, he was asked: "Wasn't he involved in some kind of sex scandal?"
For obvious reasons, the character of the person who runs a scientific institute is of utmost importance. Among other failures here, Dr. Ruth Lehmann committed to Knouse that she would fire David many months before an investigation was even launched and without consideration of the empirical facts.
How can one trust research produced by a scientific institute if its leader is not committed to observing the empirical facts before reaching conclusions that have life-threatening import? We have unfortunately seen massive amounts of scientific fraud which has harmed innumerable human lives and wasted billions of dollars of research funding and time.
For her ethical breaches here, Dr. Lehmann should be fired from the Whitehead. Based on her actions in this case, she is in no position to serve as the leader of an important scientific institute.
I speak with some perspective on how scientific and other institutions should be led. Including the recent launch of the Ackman Oxman Institute, we have funded approximately $1 billion of scientific research and institutions over the last decade or so, and this experience has given us the opportunity to meet the leadership of many of the most important scientific institutions in the world.
To put it plainly, we would not give a dollar to a scientific institute whose leader compromised basic moral principles as has happened here.
At an absolute minimum, the board of the Whitehead should immediately launch a detailed and independent investigation of Dr. Lehmann's actions in the Sabatini case. I would encourage the investigation, among other considerations, to carefully exam all of the correspondence between Lehmann and Knouse, as well their correspondence with the HAS law firm on among other areas, the various drafts of the Sabatini investigative report.
Alternatively, Dr. Lehmann could resign, minimize further distraction for the Whitehead, and save institutional time and resources that would be better spent on research that benefits humanity.
It is a shame that both American political spectrums have gone to the EXTREME ends in order to one up each other.
There is nothing left in the center where sanity usually lives.
Americans are now left with no SANE choice no matter whom they select. The speed at which American credibility is deteriorating globally is alarming. Irreversible decline I must say.
Thousands of chinese accouns that can speak&write high−level japanese criticize Thais and Vietnamise on internet in order to gain political benefit.
That's the way cognitive warfare is.

I spent 15+ years investigating Russian secret services and organized crime. I know people who served with Putin in the KGB and sat in on his deals with St. Petersburg crime bosses. So let me explain the "diesel deal" the way they would — in gangster slang. Because that's the language Putin actually thinks in.
First, the facts.
Putin just raised Russia's 2027 military budget by 27% to a record 17.1 trillion rubles — about $203 billion. Who budgets that kind of money for a war they're about to end?
The FT reported yesterday that Western intelligence has warned the heads of European defense companies that Russia is plotting to assassinate them.
Since September, Tusk, Macron and the intelligence services of Poland, Czechia, Latvia, Belgium, France and Denmark have all warned that Russian hybrid attacks — including drone and missile strikes — will intensify in the coming months.
None of this looks like a country preparing for peace.
Who actually benefits?
🇺🇸 What the US gets: Every serious analysis I've read says the announced volumes won't move American diesel prices. This is a PR move for Trump before the midterms — a story about prices that will "very, very soon" come down once his friend Vladimir's tankers reach US shores, plus the chance to claim he ended another war (I've lost count). The only US "benefit" is Trump's rating.
🇷🇺 What Russia gets: billions of dollars to keep funding its genocidal war against Ukrainians. Sanctions relief. A demonstration of power to the rest of the world. A deeper rift between the US and its European allies. And a real chance to disrupt US weapons and intelligence flowing to Ukraine.
So what is Putin's actual goal?
Trump's disapproval is at record highs and polls show his party will most likely loose midterm elections. In less than a month his power will be badly weakened. Why would Putin sign a long-term peace deal with a lame duck whose signature will soon be scrutinized at best and annulled at worst?
He wouldn't. And here's where the slang comes in.
In the eyes of Putin and his siloviki, Trump is a baryga — a greedy, unscrupulous businessman who puts profit above law and principle. Gangsters despise barygas, but they love using them. The goal is always to turn a baryga into a lokh — a mark, an outsider who doesn't understand the rules of the underworld and gets played to serve the gang's interests.
By signing the diesel deal, Putin plays two scenarios at once:
A) The deal miraculously helps his lokh keep power — great.
B) The deal changes nothing, the baryga loses the midterms — but by then it has already done its job: inflamed US political tensions and acted as arson inside the American system.
Putin knows that the majority of Americans support Ukraine. He knows that by signing, Trump draws unprecedented criticism, including from his own party. And he knows a baryga won't give up power easily, because he will have to answer for everything he did in office — this deal included. That's classic gangster/secret-service method: tie a man to your organization, make him a partner in your crimes, so he can't walk away.
Pouring more oil — diesel, in this case — onto the most explosive fault lines of American politics, raising the stakes for Trump and pushing him past the point of no return serves Putin far better than a peace deal that could be voided within months.
Remember: Putin's goal in the West is chaos, not peace.
A Fox News Digital investigation traces how France's student protests over education cuts are being hijacked by a sprawling network of communist activists, labor unions and far-left political parties — all amplified by a transnational propaganda machine funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech tycoon based in China who supports the Chinese Communist Party.
Fox News Digital's senior editor of investigations @AsraNomani tracked 50 groups in a 'red-green alliance' involved in a transnational network organizing, promoting and amplifying the student protests in France.
– Only 15 groups, or 1 of 3, is a youth student group
The 35 other groups for adults are all left-leaning.
– 12 labor groups
– 8 communist or socialist organizations
– 5 civil-rights and human-rights groups
– 5 groups focused on issues from taxes to media
– 4 political parties, including La France insoumise and French Communist Party
– 1 Palestinian advocacy group
On the ground in Paris, the hammer and sickle flies alongside Palestinian flags. The French Communist Party's national secretary poses with protesters. Far-left politicians from La France Insoumise pose for photos with students.
Groups like the Young Communists Movement of France march behind bright red banners reading "Class War" and demanding an end to "Imperialist Wars."
"What we're seeing here is the same Red-Green ecosystem that disrupts infrastructure chokeholds in our country such as the Brooklyn Bridge, college campuses and congressional hearings," says Heritage Foundation senior fellow Mike Gonzalez @Gundisalvus.
In the U.S., BreakThrough News — a pro-communist outlet in the Singham network — pushes the protests to a global audience, racking up hundreds of thousands of likes, including from influencer Hasan Piker, on dramatic anti-police clips while laying the groundwork for the next student explosion, this time in India.
