Tom's Weekend Warrior study is out! Training either 4x (short) or 2x (long) weekly resulted in the same adaptations, when overall volume and content of training was fixed.
Performance, thresholds, efficiency, Hbmass, and ox cap ↑ equally in both groups.

Just out! We describe a method to measure hemoglobin synthesis using heavy water. It takes longer than muscle etc. due to the delay between synthesis (in bone marrow) and sampling (blood), but it's short and simple compared with RBC labelling. w/ @MartinMacInnis & Chris McGlory
Curious how different training intensities and volumes affect mitochondrial growth, capillaries, and VO2max?🚴

What are the most important factors for improving mitochondrial content, capillarisation, and VO2max?
That is the key question in our meta-regression including 425 training intervention studies and 5650 participants examining the effects of exercise training 🧵
Check out our latest collaborative knowledge translation with @Mick_Leahy_ on his recent case study, exploring the use of thermodilution for quantifying human blood flow during running https://t.co/xcjpgp4WzA
Using femoral venous and transpulmonary thermodilution, we were able to directly measure leg blood flow simultaneously with cardiac output during high-intensity running.
You can see the process here, and in the supplemental materials of our paper
