@KnottDebbie SNAs see it first hand when we treat a student as a whole person and how they flourish. Its not just personal care. Its behavioural, social, access to curriculum simplifying concepts and tasks in all areas. Encouraging and creating confidence. Role needs update. #respectforsnas
I work as an SNA in mainstream and take care of 6 children in two classes with full diagnosis and 3 more with no diagnosis. So although parents think their child has an SNA. Access can be very limited. This is reality for many @SNAsSpeakOut#respectforsnas
“When you drop your child into school and you know there’s an SNA in the school, you walk out and go, ‘Awh, it’s gonna be okay.’”
This is why SNAs are so important.
Niamh shares the relief that comes from knowing that support is there when your child walks through the school gates❤️

@Education_Ire@josephamadigan Can be completed multiples times by anyone So results not reliable. Questions do not cover how the role differs in each sector and how we provide access to curriculum for many. Very limited survey. #respectforsnas
@twittinglobster@Education_Ire@josephamadigan I work as an SNA in 3 classes and have 9 children with PPPs to take care of. Parents hear their child has access but this is the reality. System definitely needs an overhaul. Also due to insufficient places often kids are placed in wrong setting whole system benefits no one
@Education_Ire@josephamadigan SNA role has evolved. DES update should reflect its true reality. Not cling onto care needs only esp in mainstream. It's taking care of behavioural, social, access to curriculum, simplifying concepts and school work Assisting with OT, SLT. @SNAsSpeakOut#respectforsnas
Great to see the Dept set up an SNA Workforce Development Unit and held SNA Focus groups this week and last. Hopefully all information gathered instigates progressive changes and modernizes the role. A step in the right direction.@SNAsSpeakOut#Respectforsnas
@josephamadigan Please accredit the UCD-SNA training course and set up a senior focus group to listen to SNA ideas , way forward from our wealth of experience. This would exist if we were valued by DES and NCSE. @SNAsSpeakOut@NormaFoleyTD1@ncseirl@Education_Ire
@ncseirl NCSE should be inviting SNAs to a lot of these courses. There is no one that offers consistent advancement of SNAs or a body that oversees SNAs. DEPT should be progressing the position instead of trying to find ways to limit it. #respectforsnas@SNAsSpeakOut
Where any SNAs consulted on their input for the course Supporting the Deployment of SNAs. The NCSE should set up an SNA organisation to consult with their expertise in the field it is after all their job which they seem to have very little say in. #respectforsnas
Schools across the country will receive a poster listing the NCSE’s TPL seminars for this academic year. These seminars can be registered for on our website, using the link below.
We are looking forward to welcoming all teaching staff who register.

@josephamadigan This is a tweet from an SNA who was there Shows no #RespectForSNAs and you were supposed to be there to listen stating the following.
She left at 12... when statements from Fórsa and SNAs started she spoke from 11am...take from that what you will.
@SeamusMRyan1@AislingDSenator Should be an SNA Council set up that DES and NCSE and Forsa can consult with on their expertise & opinions regarding any changes or ideas regarding students & the SNA role. What an under used resource not to tap into. #respectforsnas SNAs should be on BOM & invited to staff mtgs
DES should update qualification & acknowledge reality of SNA role & treat child as a whole person. It's not just Primary & Secondary
care needs It's behavioural, social, access to curriculum simplifying concepts.. Empowering & fostering independence #respectforsnas
Finally SNAs get the opportunity to explain why they are worth so much more than 3 D grade passes in the junior cert. The minimum qualification has not been reviewed or changed since 1979.
@josephamadigan Who is on this consultative forum. I hope SNAs are included. You & @ncseirl need to set up SNA Council asap to show #respectforsnas & use the expertise we have in SEN. This should be a given. It's people on the ground who can make decisions for best practice @SNAsSpeakOut

@CatrionaGolden SNAs were supposed to vote on whether to accept front loading according to the Union. #respectforsnas . Also promised OT, SLT, district nurse and lots more so front loading could be implemented effectively. Instead just bulldoze ahead leave the schools to sort out mess.
A huge thank you to all who came out and stood with us yesterday to call for a public and secular National Maternity Hospital.
Whatever happens, this is but one battle in a long war, where the battlefield is female bodies - again.
We fight on!
