All of us @hakaimagazine were sad to hear we’d lost our funding. It’s been a true privilege to produce quality science journalism with the loveliest team. (I’ve wanted to work here since @KatherineRCook’s @UVicAnthro class!)
We’re not dead yet! The search for new funding is on!
I hate climate change. Darkest morning ever. Smells like smoke inside despite 4 x @IKEA förnuftig and 2 x @BlueairGlobal 411i max. Outside air quality AQI 326 or 55 times above @WHO guidelines. Net zero by 2050 is so late. Too late. It’s 27 years away. I’m 31.
With such sadness happening across multiple Indigenous territories today with raging wildfires, this is an excellent example of how a forest that is previously thinned and burned under proper conditions can survive when impacted by a ‘bad’ fire #goodfire#fireback
The time is ripe for a global climate march.
It's coming: September 17 - the March to End Fossil Fuels.
Thanks @Tzeporah, @BradLafortune, and @carobrouillette for speaking to me about this.

An important message from John Green re: Johnson & Johnson's pursuit of the secondary patent of bedaquiline, which would result in an estimated 6 million people not being able to afford this treatment.
@JNJNews @JNJGlobalHealth we must put people over profits.
In just 22 hours, 578,000 people have watched this video about Johnson & Johnson's pursuit of secondary patents for bedaquiline and how this will lead to millions being unable to receive curative treatment for tuberculosis. https://t.co/Zy86nQE7lD #PatientsNotPatents@JNJNews
@DrewBrayshaw @JessHausti Thank you for this answer! And thank you @JessHausti for asking! I've often wondered about that on Calvert (this looks like West Beach?)
🌲 FIRE ECOLOGY 🔥How are your eyes & throats?
What is fire? Why are forests ablaze? What can be done?
Seems like a good time to serve up an ashy sandwich about wildfires & Indigenous land stewardship with Dr. @ecologyofgavin & Dr. @ChristiansonAmy.

The wildfires choking huge parts of North America with smoke this week are intensified by climate change.
But they’re also supercharged by industrial logging.
Forests are “managed” to supply the maximum amount of timber, which concentrates fuel and reduces resilience.

pretty grim that it's taken just seven years to go from "whoa smoke in vancouver that's craaaaaaaaaaazy" to "it's mid may and there's smoke in vancouver and this is how we live now"
On #EarthDay2023 eve eve, Canada has decided to approve the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 mega port project. Just 4 months ago Canada made commitments to halt and reverse biodiversity loss at #COP15. When will #Ottawa move beyond empty promises?

Today's RBT2 approval exposes these incredible creatures to more harm:

👋I’m back. And I wrote about the current wave of attempts to downplay long COVID—less outright denial & more "it’s real but no big deal".
Except: it very much is. It’s a substantial and ongoing crisis that still demands our attention. 1/
