I had a great time at #S25MRS. It was great to catch up with colleagues & I gave a talk about our research this morning, but didn't get any pics. I've substituted one of the Space Needle that I took. #Seattle is a fantastic city. I can't wait to get back to another MRS meeting.
We are happy to announce that Dr. Danila Barskiy will join us as an Assoc Prof in Fall 2025. Prof Barskiy earned his Ph.D. from Novosibirsk State U in Russia. After graduation, he completed postdoctoral studies @VanderbiltU w/ Prof E Chekmenev & @UCB_Chemistry w/ Prof A Pines.
We are excited that Dr. Jason Calvin will be joining us this fall as an assistant prof of chemistry. Prof Calvin completed his BS from @BYU & his Ph.D. from @UCB_Chemistry working w/ Prof P Alivisatos. He is currently a postdoc @HarvardCCB working w/ Prof. J. Mason.
This could provide new opportunities to probe nanoparticle catalysis in situ from simultaneously monitoring XAFS of both the metal in the nanoparticle and the substrate. Very interesting studies and I'm really excited about exploring this direction more.
Our latest work just came out @JPhysChem C. This is a really interesting and new approach to monitor catalytic nanoparticles using #XAFS where we brominated the substrate to monitor the system from the reagent's perspective.

Congrats to @knecht644 and team for their recent publication just out in @ACS_Langmuir. The work delves into the binding of peptides on nanomaterial interfaces to optimize surface exposure for eventual chemical crosslinking.

Happy to share our latest pub in @ACS_Langmuir w/ @tiffw001. Here we explored the binding of RLPs on h-BN to optimize exposure for crosslinking to make resilient films. Looks like #graphene will be a better surface! Many thanks to @AFOSR for support!

Today we hosted Prof Edward Solomon from @StanfordUChem to give the Nelson Lecture on his research in Cu proteins. The talk was simulcasted w/ the S. Fl. section of @AmerChemSociety. We appreciated hearing these fantastic spectroscopic results and their implications.
This suggests that we can achieve selective protein/surface binding from the same protein based upon its conformation. Many thanks to the Army Research Office for funding this work!
Excited by our latest pub in Small w/ incredible collaborators @tiffw001 & Dom Glover. In this work, we're exploring the binding of metamorphic proteins (calmodulin) to Au. We found really different binding affinities for apo & holo forms.
