@super_crayon To drastically simplify, it's basically when you pay a company to reduce CO2 in some way with the goal of matching or exceeding the amount of CO2 you produced. The issue is, in practice, few of these companies meaningfully reduce CO2 and often exaggerate what they even offer.

@super_crayon Carbon offsets are largely just bullshit; most of them are borderline fake and those that aren't often aren't effective. Saying "We'll emit tons of CO2 and then offset it" is basically the same as saying "We'll emit tons of CO2 and then you can pretend we didn't"
