@YWHelp the water supply in Preston under Scar has gone off without warning. Major funeral with catering in the village today. Can you please investigate quickly?
Thank you @BACLS_official ! I am so thrilled and incredibly honoured to have won the BACLS Edited Collection Prize for my edited book Decolonising the Literature Curriculum. I am also grateful to the book’s outstanding contributors. This really means everything to me and them.
The 300 to 500 excess deaths a week because of A &E waiting times now stretching to 12 hours or more have a root cause. Lest we forget: our NHS crisis is the deadly legacy of George Osborne’s austerity https://t.co/bdepbUU9VR
The economy is shrinking because of falls in consumer spending. Soon it will be because of increasing interest rates. Straight after that it will be because of austerity and tax increases. This is the first time we will have ever had a deliberate government manufactured recession
Our economy is being dragged down by a shortage of staff and low productivity. The staff shortage is over 50s, incapacitated by Covid. The low productivity is 7 million people on waiting lists worrying about their health instead of doing their job. Spending money on the NHS pays
We cannot have an economic recovery unless we spend more on the NHS https://t.co/S2trmvV086 Sick people cannot drive an economic recovery. Tackling deficiencies in the NHS is the pre-condition of getting out of the recession to come in that case
“…arts & humanities students are the “ideal entrepreneurs” of the future, digitally literate, ready to thrive in a globally diverse world, resilient, confident at analysis & team working, independently minded’ …Birkbeck is ideally placed to lead on this. “
Next week, the government will receive the OBR forecasts on its Budget.
But they won’t publish them for another six weeks.
That is misguided and harmful.
And it’s why I’ve written to the Chancellor requesting he publishes the OBR forecasts - in full - on the 7 October.
So no US trade deal. Another of the big Brexit lies nailed. And on they go pretending it is going to plan, going well, can be made to work and none of our economic problems have anything to do with it. Liars and charlatans. They should never be allowed anywhere near power again
The UK certainly knows how to put on a funeral. It's a shame that the same level of care, attention + effort doesn't go into maintaining the NHS, feeding the poor, housing the vulnerable, educating the young, helping the old, taxing the rich + powerful or investing in the future.
