@paniterka_ch Remember the wonderful predictions that once we have machines and roboter, man will work less. Don't think this has happened. Today the "#ChatGPT will steal my job" discussion is similar. I don't think so, but in a way it would be nice if it could - if we would work less.

I can relate. Particularly, seeing my wife in the same environment, while raising two children. At times academia takes a toll on our family. It is a shame that this fascinating profession has created this toxic conditions.

Just read the term "Überreseacher" for someone conducting meta-analysis in Taleb's "The Black Swan." And I think that is beautiful (gives is some action hero vibe 😃)

@academic_exit For me I think the biggest learning was, that initially I was convinced that industry doesn't need my very sepcific academic/scientific expertise. Now, two years in industry I realize that exactly that expertise is desperately needed.

@academic_exit I went from PhD straight to tenure-track position. Three years (and a burn-out) later into a researcher position in industry. My salary in academia was higher. However, stress level is lower, and general satisfaction higher in the current position.

@debayan @zhang_chuchu @roydanroy Depends. In Switzerland (Zurich) one child is about 2700 USD. We have 2 😭. Even though we work in industry it still takes close to one full salary. I think in Switzerland it is not so much about capitalism, but a very traditional family politics, aiming to have mums stay home
