Well who wudda thunk it?! The Starmer-Reeves defence spending plan assumes £10 billion in defence ‘efficiencies’/savings — and leaves Andy Burnham to find a further £5 billion for defence in the next Budget for the figures to add up. Starmer-Reeves — shysters til the very end.
@alryanradio While there's much nostalgia, turning off 198 kHz from Droitwich is a poor choice for national resilience. One transmitter that covers the entire UK and associated waters that can be received on a battery powered radio without any Internet, satellite, or mains.
Case in point: the Prime Minister just said defence is "a number one priority".
Growth was meant to the number one priority, is it still?
There's not enough money for defence, but today the Government announced £4.5 BILLION for walking and cycling.
Make choices. Decide. Lead.
Under the admittedly catchy title of the 'zebra crossing revolution', Government has made £4.5bn available for 'active travel'. But it's vague. If it means pedestrians are safer, more kids feel able to walk/cycle to school, and more people can make local trips by foot or bike, that's positive. But any LTN-type restrictions and diversion of traffic onto main rds would be unacceptable. And there is no sense how this fits into a wider transport or economic strategy.
When the people on the inside lose confidence in the Prime Minister it's both damning for @Keir_Starmer and sad for our country and military. Starmer has lost control of his own party. He spends £1 trillion of our money a year, he refuses to prioritise our nation's defence.
We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both.
I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces.
Letter to the PM below.🫡🫡🫡⬇️⬇️
@JohnHealey_MP John Healy is a rare man of principle in Starmer's failing government. Alas Labour would rather fund debt and benefits than defence and Starmer doesn't have the leadership skills or support to turn his party or the country around. #Burnham will be the same.
Since this was published Saturday morning it’s been revealed that the Royal Navy’s entire available fleet of hunter-killer submarines is stuck in port unable to sail — all five Astute class subs currently laid up awaiting maintenance and other repair work. Leaves the UK’s sub-sea internet and power cables dangerously vulnerable to sabotage by the Kremlin
Keir Starmer looks absolutely rattled.
Excellent performance from Kemi Badenoch at #PMQs, going on Labour’s ballooning benefits bill, paid for by Labour’s tax rises on us all.
It’s in Labour’s DNA. Higher taxes to pay for more benefits.
“The problem is the Labour Party”
@TimesRadio@CalumAM A Labour leader finally talking sense. Alas it's not the current Labour "leader" or any of the challengers. @Keir_Starmer please listen to Blair and end the self destruction of the United Kingdom. The country can't wait until the next general election....
Keir Starmer should rip up Ed Miliband’s “unnecessary” net zero agenda, Tony Blair tells #TimesRadio.
“It’s not that I'm a climate denier, but it's just coming to terms with this reality.”
@CalumAM
Reform 40%. Restore 7%. Burnham 43%. The Sunday Times poll for Survation at Makerfield shows the split right will bring in our most Lefty Prime Minister ever.
Grateful if Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe would put down their swords and pick up the phone.
🚨 Morrisons is closing 100 stores.
They've said it is because of “significant cost increases resulting from government policy choices”.
This will be deeply worrying for everyone who works at Morrisons.
Rachel Reeves has battered our economy. This is the reality of her chaos.
@afneil Same old Labour. Spend, spend, spend.... Sooner or later they'll run out of other peoples' money to spend (again). If Burn'em does't want to be "in hock" to the bond markets, perhaps he needs to cut spending? #burnham#makerfield
After 18 months of “standing up to Putin” the Labour govt quietly issued a licence allowing imports of Russian oil refined in third countries.
Yesterday Labour MPs voted AGAINST UK oil and gas licences.
We are now importing from Russia instead of drilling in the North Sea.
Insane.
Andy Burnham now now says:
1. I will stick to Rachael Reeves’ fiscal rules.
2. I will not seek to rejoin the EU.
Two U-turns in one day. What exactly would he do differently?
Side note.
To the Labour MPs who shout “Liz Truss” whenever the economy is discussed, should note that the UK 10yr bond yield under Truss peaked at 4.7%
This morning, because of Reeves’ and Starmer’s ineptitude the 10yr bond yield is 5.02%
Labour crashed the economy.
