Shutting down the safe streets program before it even really began is disappointingly shortsighted.
As playgrounds close and parks become crowded, people seeking exercise and fresh air to get through this stressful time need more space to spread out, not less.
@DOEChancellor Give full transparency to all those at NYC schools who & when tested positive & which schools. You & @NYCMayor have blood on your hands for covering up cases & not closing schools. This is criminal. @NYGovCuomo @NYCSpeakerCoJo @TishJames@UFT
EVENT CANCELLATION NOTIFICATION - Please note that due to travel restrictions around COVID-19, we have to unfortunately cancel the upcoming Film Screening and Conversation with Gregg Gonsalves
Not only did Geraldine Ferraro sit on the @USHouse Budget Committee, she was also the 1st woman to chair the Democratic platform committee and the 1st woman vice-presidential candidate! With President Carter, 9/21/78. NAID 181476 #ArchivesLadiesWhoLead#ArchivesHashtagParty
Was just on @MSNBC talking with @chrishayes about how school closures are always a last resort, but due to the lack of #coronavirus testing, it is necessary. If you don’t have the testing, you don’t know who has the virus.
UPDATE: On Fri 3/13/20, in an abundance of caution, we will close 2 school bldgs & one D75 program; only ONE has a confirmed #COVID19 case by @HealthNYGov. That case is a student in the New Dorp HS + Hungerford bldg on Staten Island. The others have special circumstances. [1/4]
I'm going out on a limb, making a prediction:
By March 23 we will have 30,000 (or more) reported cases in the USA.
You can all laugh at me on Mar 24. Or weep with me.
I'm basing this forecast on how tightly US is tracking the trail of Italy, coupled w/our far larger population.
@DrKatzNYCHH Now is the time to act. I'm a lifelong NYer, too and a teacher @NYCSchools. Without testing we can't say how much #COVID2019 is in schools, but we know it's there. cc:@UFT
.@DOEChancellor Really? Can you provide some evidence? Surfaces are gross, kids lick desks, nurses have no testing kits. FACTS show that esp. in absence of tests we must #flattenthecurve with definitive action now.
I want to be clear that we take #COVID19 precautions very seriously. The health and safety of our students and staff members is our highest priority. It's up to all of us to lead and model for our communities the importance of listening to facts and not responding to fear.
@NYCMayor Here’s a FACT: your NYC teachers are scared. We shouldn’t be putting our lives/safety on the line while you refuse to close schools to contain this virus as others have done. #teacherlivesmatter#CLOSENYCPUBLICSCHOOLS
@NYCMayor#Facts NYC Public School Nurses need a basic kit to test students for the virus. We find out that a student has it when it’s too late to mitigate. Symptoms don’t show right away. It can be 4 weeks until it does. Students/Staff are being put at risk. @NYCMayorsOffice@UFT
I believe DOE should consider adopting summer school model at this time. Those children that require services should receive them at a few select school sites in each borough. During summer school, school sites are combined into a few buildings in each borough to service students
@carradiovinyl @DOEChancellor#FlattenTheCurve#closenycschools Use common sense, stat. Seriously, Kids are licking doors, high fiving each other. This is not safety and it's not science.
