Update #2 and more sad information on why our foster dog is so terrified😔
Happy news - She grabbed all of our clothes in our bedroom and put them in her bed. I think this means we make her feel safe 🤍😊
Sad news - we learned that she was put on hold by the shelter for months because of a bad abuse investigation by the person who surrendered her😣
More happy news - even though we have 3 rescue dogs already, I think we are going to adopt her because we never want her to struggle again. Her getting used to a new home will be very hard for her.
Can’t wait to take her to the beach, hikes, and the barn one day.
From abandoned and terrified to safe, loved, and absolutely spoiled! We found Rod Stewart alone, sick, and scared. The vet gave us a long list of things to treat, but today we are ready for the journey. We wanted to show him exactly what his new life is going to look like, so we took him on a grand adventure today! He might have a long road to recovery ahead of him, but he will never have to walk it alone again. ❤️
An epic journey for 4 special dogs including Rocky.
🔫Big Red had been shot
🦷Velvet was attacked
☕️ Espresso Martini poisoned
🐕 Rocky was hours from death
Today they all went to better places. A longer watch but one that will leave you with a huge happy smile
This afternoon, I took home an old dog from a small rescue near Santa Fe.
When he got into my car, it was not like the happy videos people see online.
No barking.
No tail hitting everything.
He just sat on the seat and put his head on the window. Then he looked at me. His eyes felt heavy, like he was carrying many years of quiet pain.
I don’t know what hurt him more.
Waiting for so long.
Or slowly seeing less people stop at his cage.
For almost 10 months, this old Golden Retriever lived in a small shelter. He was calm, gentle, and good. But people came looking for puppies. Young dogs. Happy energy. They walked past him again and again. He just watched them go.
But I saw him.
I saw a dog who stopped asking.
A dog who didn’t expect anything anymore.
Maybe the tears in his eyes were from old memories. Cold floor. Doors opening but never for him.
Maybe he was confused. Leaving the only place he knew, even if it was not a real home.
Or maybe it was hope. Quiet hope. The kind that is scared to show itself.
Hope that the soft car seat means rest.
Hope that my hand on his back means safety.
Hope that this ride is the last ride to nowhere.
He is almost 13 years old. Many people walk away when they hear that number.
But today, that number means something else.
It means he survived.
It means he waited long enough.
It means he did not give up.
He didn't leave as “the dog nobody wanted.”
He didn't leave as a number on paper.
He left as my dog 🐶
His name is not just on a tag now. It is a promise.
A promise of warm place.
Quiet nights.
No more waiting.
Whatever was in his tears — pain, relief, or small trust — I know one thing.
He will never be ignored again.
He is finally home. 🐶❤️
