The $ZEX airdrop is designed to kickstart community ownership and governance, putting power in the hands of almost 80,000 real Zeta users and community members.

With the airdrop around the corner, we wanted to share the key principles and mechanisms we used in its design.

Disclaimer: The $ZEX token is not yet live. Please follow our official channels for upcoming communications about the airdrop and TGE.

The primary goal of our airdrop is to distribute 80M $ZEX to individuals who truly use, understand, and believe in our protocol and ecosystem. To do this we looked for the following qualities:
- Users that traded meaningful volumes on Zeta, driving the ecosystem effects that exchanges need to thrive and battle testing our infrastructure.
- Users that kept coming back and grew with us, using Zeta over longer periods rather than short-term farmers.
- Users who supported Zeta since its early days, including pre-Z-Score and through S1.
- Solana community members that actually trade and engage with Zeta, not just holders of a particular NFT.

To ensure we attract and reward token holders who align with our vision for protocol governance and growth, we implemented several strategic mechanics in our allocation calculation:
- Minimum Z-Score: A low minimum Z-Score was set to exclude low-volume sybils and ensure everyone eligible received a meaningful allocation.
- Maximum Token Allocation: Users with a Z-Score above a certain threshold received the same token allocation, ensuring a broader distribution of voting power.
- Linear Distribution: The majority of the allocation calculation was designed with a linear distribution relative to Z-Score, to benefit real users more than short-term farmers.
- OG Boosts: Volume multipliers were applied for early supporters, with smaller boosts for S1 users, to thank those who helped us from the start.
- Activity Boost: Additional boosts for users who consistently chose Zeta as their exchange of choice, rather than this week’s airdrop opportunity.
- Sybil Detection: We partnered with Allium to detect and exclude sybil accounts.

The airdrop and subsequent staking airdrop are just the beginning of our journey. Following the snapshot, the Genesis Epoch begins with 8M $ZEX in trader rewards.
