I knew nothing about the people who built our roads, harbours, airports, shopping malls and our houses. Nothing about the men who spilt their sweat and blood and the women on their knees, cleaning toilets. But I was reminded of a certain 'terrorist' by the name of Mandela.

Black people were erased from everyday society. They were shadows; ghosts that disappeared at night and magically reappeared in our kitchens in the morning to raise white people's children. I didn't know why there were separate toilets and park benches. It was 'normal'.

By the time I left school, #Apartheid was truly entrenched, deeply buried in the psyche of white South Africans. At school, I was taught the white man's history, his conquests & victories. I knew nothing else; nothing about the people who made up most of the country's population.

The repo rate is extortionary as well, and it benefits net interest providers. Price stability has been debunked by most central bankers, especially, if it is pursued to the detriment of the tradeoffs ( growth and unemployment). SARB mandate should be reformed.

And also high time to change the usurious 3.5% charge banks levy above the repo rate: repo rate is 6.5% but banks charging 10%. Amongst highest in the world. Between SARB and the banks our economy is being strangled.
