In Apocalypse Now (1979), screenwriter John Milius wrote the three Playmates as an allegory for the Sirens from The Odyssey. Like Homer’s mythical Sirens, they were meant to be beautiful, untouchable illusions who lure Se×-Starved men toward obsession, madness, and violence.
The Godfather released 54 years ago today. I could say 1 million things about this film, but there’s no film on Earth that’s ever brought me closer to my dad. I also don’t think there’s ever been a better movie made in the history of Cinema. This is the movie of our lifetime.
