8.30 pm last year on a night like this. Emmanuel Mukuria Kamau was alive, and then he "seemingly" vanished after a police swoop in CBD. 365 days, he's still missing like many others. Let me tell his story 1/
You cannot steal from the starving and preach patience.
You cannot bury a generation in debt, then threaten them for digging themselves out.
This isn’t just protest it’s payback.
The youth are awake. And we are coming.

Kenya’s Open Finance Industry Workshop, hosted by FSD Kenya in partnership with @afik_Kenya and @KenyaBankers Association, brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore financial data sharing and governance. Discussions focused on balancing policy mandates with industry-led innovation to create a secure and standardised open finance framework.
The first session examined global models, comparing Australia’s policy-driven approach with Brazil’s industry-led framework. Experts highlighted inefficiencies in Kenya’s data-sharing landscape, including reliance on bilateral agreements, regulatory gaps, and security risks, debating whether a voluntary model could drive meaningful participation.
The second session addressed the realities of data sharing, including regulatory barriers, competition concerns, and trust deficits between banks and fintechs. While banks remain cautious due to compliance risks, fintechs emphasised the need for a collaborative ecosystem that fosters innovation and financial inclusion.
Francis Gwer, Financial Sector Policy Specialist at FSD Kenya, led the closing session, stressing the need for trust, regulatory clarity, and stakeholder cooperation.
The next steps will focus on refining governance frameworks, strengthening data infrastructure, and aligning policies to enable responsible and scalable open finance adoption.
