EFF Member of Parliament, Honourable @NalediChirwa, delivered a robust debate on the urgent need to reform South Africa’s public procurement laws to tackle poverty, unemployment, and economic exclusion.

—The state has become hollowed out, it cannot build a road, fix a leaking water pipe, or even purchase school stationery without a tender. We have become what is known as a contract state a government that functions through contracts rather than through its own capacity.

Meanwhile, government continues to pay for services that are never delivered, or for poor-quality work that collapses within months. Corruption and rent-seeking deepen the rot, draining billions from the fiscus every year.
