Maharashtra’s decision to abolish the 30-year age limit for tribal students seeking admission to Adivasi hostels is a victory for the students who fought for their rights and refused to let their voices be ignored.

For 12 days, tribal students in Pune observed a hunger strike over several issues, including the age limit for hostel admissions.

During Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi ji’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Pune, student Nisha raised this concern directly with him. Shri Rahul Gandhi ji then wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on August 24, urging the government to address the issue.

The Maharashtra government has now withdrawn the age restriction, ensuring that tribal students above the age of 30 are not denied access to hostel facilities.

This is a victory for the students’ struggle.
It is a victory for every person who raised their voice and refused to give up.
