California Governor Gavin Newsom pardoned a convicted attempted murderer who was an undocumented illegal immigrant, opening the possibility for him staying in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Somboon Phaymany was convicted of numerous charges, including attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, assault with a firearm, and conspiracy to commit assault with a firearm after a judge sentenced him in 1997 to 14 years to life.

In December 2025, Newsom pardoned him for transforming his life and providing “evidence that he is living an upright life and has demonstrated his fitness for restoration of civic rights and responsibilities.”

BREAKING: Senators have agreed on a plan to end the government shutdown, according to Politico.

The Senate will advance the House’s stopgap measure and proceed with a funding bill that provides full-year funding for the VA, Agriculture, and military construction.

Funding for extending other agencies will be granted through January 30.

Democrats have also secured a December vote to extend ACA subsidies, along with guarantees of backpay and rehiring for furloughed federal employees.

10 Dem Senators are now supporting the CR which validates the fact that it has been the Dems in the Senate that have perpetuated the government shutdown contrary to statements by my opponent it was Trump’s fault. Not true and incredulous!

Bottom line:
You’re not broken.

Immigration/ICE/LA

·       We must condemn uncontrolled illegal immigration of millions into the US under Biden

·       Hope and pray for the safety of LA police, National Guard, and private business owners and lawful citizens under attack

·       Condemn the violent rioters and immediate prosecution and/or deportation

·       My friends, the events in Los Angeles are unfolding even as we discuss this now, and it would serve no good purpose to comment at length about them now

·       My views are rock solid:

o   America is a nation of lawful immigrants.  Their talent and spirit created the greatest country in world history.

o   America must welcome talent, whether for entry level, service or high specialization positions

o   Immigration policy should not be a political football, kicked around from one end of the field to the other, depending on which party holds Congress and the White House and at the whim of unelected advocacy groups

o   I believe that if a rational, logical policy is presented to the American people, the public will encourage both parties to work together to see these problems are fixed.

·       What are the keystones:

o   Transparency in setting goals

o   A calm, open vetting process

o   Collaborative resolutions within the US by businesses, which do desire immigrants, and the state and local governments, which will also benefit from the engagement of our legal immigrant population.

·       Let me clarify. When I am elected:

o   I will introduce legislation for the establishment of a permanent National Immigration Council (NIC), to include representation from:

·       Business

·       Labor

·       State and local governments

·       U.S. Department of Labor and other relevant federal departments and agencies

·       Majority and minority parties in both houses

·       Other select stakeholders (NOT advocacy groups or service NGOs)

NIC will be tasked to form, transparently, a cohesive, public national consensus for annual immigration numbers

NIC will identify, perhaps annually, in public hearing specific industries with a need for immigrant talent, those that are not satisfied by a current U.S. citizens work force. All Americans will know in advance our immigration priorities, including both talents and numbers.

o   Vetting process: The vetting process will be fully funded and staffed.  No one will be allowed to enter without a full vetting as to the person’s character and skills.  Never again will drug dealers, human traffickers and terrorists be given the keys to America.

o   Resettlement, including housing, jobs, education, medical and other key social services to be paid for and managed by the welcoming firms, state, and local governments.

·       My friends, America had one immigration method in the 18th century, and a more controlled one in the 19th and 20th, when my own family immigrated to our great country.  Alas, in this century, there has been no system, no transparency, no budgeting process.  Today’s LA riots are a result of poor previous presidential administration national, State and city leadership policies on immigration issues.

Vote for me, and I’ll collaborate with all policymakers to give us effective legal immigration policy again.
