Just stumbled upon the 1989 network map of the erstwhile Vayudoot airline, connecting the then Bombay, Aurangabad and Nagpur.
A wave of nostalgia from a fascinating chapter of Indian aviation history.
The image below depicts Indian Airlines’ air route network as of February 1989. Remarkably, the airline already operated an extensive network across India, including the Aurangabad - Hyderabad route along with Udaipur - Aurangabad route back then.
8 years on, the road to Ajanta Caves, a 2,300 year old UNESCO World Heritage Site, remains in shocking condition. How will tourism grow if the approach road stays neglected?
@Maha_Tourism@MORTHIndia@ASIGoI@CMOMaharashtra - Please act now to restore this heritage route.
On this day, October 15, 1932, JRD Tata made history by piloting India's first commercial flight from Karachi to Mumbai in a De Havilland Puss Moth aircraft. This landmark journey marked the dawn of civil aviation in India, paving the way for the country's future in air travel.
Stumbled upon a 1958 timetable of the erstwhile Government of India owned Indian Airlines, showing the Bombay - Aurangabad route. It instantly takes me back in time — what a beautiful era that must have been ! Old airline timetables like these truly give me goosebumps.
For all Pan Am lovers……the Pan Am aircraft will be departing, for its “Tracing the Transatlantic” tour, JFK International Airport, today June 17, 2025, terminal 7 : scheduled time 12:30 PM.

76 years ago, India’s and Air India’s first International flight took to the skies on this day, 8th June 1948.
Operated by a Lockheed constellation aircraft (VT-CQP ) and named “Malabar Princess”, the aircraft departed from Bombay to London with 35 passengers and 771 kgs of mail.
1983 - The year of inclusion for the 1200 year old Ellora Caves as India’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic city of Aurangabad is now known as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
A nostalgic journey….The 3 flight attendants, Ms. Rita Roy, Mrs. Hemmady & Mrs. Joan Desai, from Air India, served US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, during her flight from Italy to India, at Rome's airport in March, 1962…graceful ladies, epitome of Indian culture & hospitality
"Happy World Pilots Day!
