What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I'll need daily interaction with you as I get used to my new life. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I am not one to sit still! I will flourish in a home with someone that will keep me mentally and physically active!

Mosley of the Bronx, New York City, who was accused of killing a cat named Mercy in a ritualistic sacrifice, has pleaded guilty and will be serving two years in prison. He is expected to return to court on August 11 for formal sentencing.
Mercyβs story has drawn sustained public attention, with advocates repeatedly attending court proceedings and demanding accountability for her killing.
The ritualistic nature of Mercyβs killing reflects acts within organized cat torture networks. The deliberate infliction and prolonging of suffering reflects the sadistic mentality of cats being treated as objects where extreme violence is inflicted for personal enjoyment.
These networks proliferate images and videos of torture online - content that should never exist, let alone be distributed where it can encourage, influence and normalize further acts of extreme cruelty.
We welcome the guilty plea and the accountability that has followed. However, no sentence can undo the suffering inflicted upon Mercy.
Thank you to the many advocates and supporters of Mercy who continued to attend court proceedings and pressure for justice for her.

At first glance, these tiny souls may not look like the cats people dream of adopting. Their fur has lost its shine, their little bodies have grown painfully light, and their eyes tell stories no animal should ever have to carry. Yet behind every tired face is a heart overflowing with trust, tenderness, and a quiet determination to greet another sunrise. πΎ
Everything they still have today has been made possible by people like you. Your kindness has become their comfort, their routine, and the reason those little bowls are never just empty symbols of hope. You haven't simply supported a group of rescued catsβyou've reminded our families that compassion still exists, even when everything else feels uncertain.
From the deepest place in our hearts, thank you. Your care has become part of our daily prayers, and your names are remembered with endless gratitude. The road ahead is still incredibly difficult, and each new day brings another challenge we cannot face alone. Together, we can help them keep finding warmth, comfort, and brighter tomorrows. ππΎπ€

What my friends at ACC say about me: I can go home today! I have lived with cats in my previous home. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. Meet Snow White! We don't know too much about Snow White's backstory but we're trying to get to know her a little better. As a new addition to the shelter, she is still trying to unwind and get comfortable in a new environment with a lot of stimuli. Our hope is with time and a patient adopter Snow White can fully decompress in an environment where she feels safe and respected. She'd do best in an adult-only home where she's given the choice to interact on her terms. Positive reinforcement through treats and toys will definitely help her along, too. Think you can be her Prince Charming? Some to SIACC and say hello to Snow White today! Snow White tolerates minimal attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»

He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.π₯π₯π₯π₯
What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Squirrel is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because his previous owner reports he is quiet, friendly, and affectionate in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet but is really struggling in the shelter environment. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help him adjust to their new home. A volunteer writes: What's black and white and pink all over? Squirrel is! But it's hard for you to see him because poor little Squirrel has been in a time-out. It's perhaps true that his behavior in the shelter has been squirrelly. One minute he's thrashing around and the next he's watching quietly and patiently as I work a squeeze-up into a dish for him. Squirrel would appear to be an example of someone who's just not himself in the shelter. Squirrel's previous parent described him as quiet, friendly, affectionate, and playful, and has been known to pounce on some human feet; and that he likes to be where the action is, preferring to hang out with the humans at home. Squirrel takes a bum rap for some naughty behavior, but I think he might just need to feel safe and have the opportunity to blow off some steam. Squirrel has a lightweight pugilist's ability to paddle the cat dancer at record speeds, which is no easy feat. His fancy paw work is likely the envy of other aspiring feline athletes. He might even be an athlete-scholar, judging from his intelligent, curious, pale green eyes. He enjoys Temptations treats and Squeeze-ups. β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»

In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. I love to play and will need appropriate toys and positive outlets for my energy. Miu Miu interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but he has a tendency to become overstimulated and display limited warnings and has a very high energy level. A volunteer writes: Miu Miu looks like he's admiring his own paws when he splays them out on the wall. A momentary distraction from his rolls, he has a unique coordination that is somehow even cuter than it sounds. Brought to us due to a no pet policy, Miu Miu's known as a friendly and outgoing superstar with some pretty clear and defined interests, mainly playtime. He's a smart cat who would love nothing more than to go and do, to play and to pounce, he only needs someone to invite him.
