The National Award winning #Shahid is finally streaming on Prime Video. It took 13 years for our film to find a streaming home.
Shahid tells the story of Shahid Azmi, a lawyer who defended people accused under terror laws and fought for due process in a climate where Muslims were often presumed guilty before being proven innocent. He was murdered for that courage.
I’ve often wondered why Shahid remained without a streaming platform for so long. It was released a year before 2014. Then came a political climate in which dissenters, activists, journalists and those defending the rights of the accused increasingly found themselves under suspicion. In that same period, people like Umar Khalid have spent years in prison awaiting trial.
Many of us—filmmakers, actors and writers drawn to courageous stories like Shahid—either struggled to get such ideas made or were co-opted by the system into telling “kosher” stories that won national awards thanks to their political conformity and despite their mediocrity.
So why now? Why does a film like Shahid finally find a streaming platform in 2026? Has the mood changed? Is there growing resistance to the politics of fear?
Whatever the reason, I’m proud of this film. It established me as a co-writer/editor and brought me back to the kind of cinema I believe in.
Watch it if you haven’t. Watch it again if you have. This film, made by a wonderful team, is a reminder of the kind of courageous cinema we used to make and celebrate.
Thankyou @PrimeVideoIN ✊

Om Shanti.
Sometime people play small roles but leave a lasting impact. Can never forget 'Hum Japan Se Aaya hoon , wahan ke hisaab se dedh lakh collars pehle bana diye, ab kapada nahin bacha hai...' in Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar ke. Same with the fake limping walk with the hockey stick and the rant about Uday bhai... He made all those characters so unforgettable. Travel well Mushtaq bhai.. you will make people laugh up there as well..
Yesterday, @IndianExpress reported an unprecedented rupture inside the Election Commission: TWO of its three members objecting on record, 14 times in 10 months, to decisions taken without their knowledge.
Today, the second part of our investigation looks at the concern Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi flagged most often: Who really controls our electoral rolls?
We followed that question to Goa, where we found something deeply concerning.
Stay with me....

#ExpressInvestigation | 97 voters may not matter in the world’s largest democracy of over 900 million voters but this story from Goa has national significance.
The Indian Express reported that 2 Election Commissioners (ECs) in 3-member Election Commission of India (ECI) objected on record 14 times in 10 months to steps taken by the ECI under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar — from keeping them in the dark to adding new voters and deleting names.
What the 2 ECs, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, primarily warned against — the centralisation of ECINet and cutting out state ground-level officials — has played out in Goa, and its trail is recorded.

Shame on all those journalists, especially the senior ones who will put out stories today on how the ECI has denied the story by @RitikaChopra__. You could not do the work she did, at least stop being govt’s puppet for a day. Instead ask for accountability. Millions suffering
The national rollout of the SIR has been under the supervision of all three Election Commissioners. But two of them, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, have formally objected, on record, at least 14 times over the last 10 months — four times on a single day — to decisions taken and orders issued, they say, without their knowledge.

#MintPremium | Filings show that family members of Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran hold business relations with TVS Motor Co. Ltd, a firm led by Venu Srinivasan, who recently cast a decisive board vote backing Chandrasekaran's fresh term.

Can you imagine a professional Executive Chairman of a large corporate group forcibly trying to extend his/her tenure against the wishes of the majority stake owning promoter like Kumar Birla, Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra or Adi Godrej ? Impossible to imagine, right? So why is this happening with Tata Group? This seems a warning to many other business houses. And a warning to potential investors in India! This clearly flows from the nature of this regime.
The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵

I watched @rahulkanwal’s 57-minute conversation with @DrAMSinghvi and Harish Salve on the Tata Sons battle on @ndtv.
Most people won’t watch the whole thing. They should.
Beneath the legal sparring are some fundamental questions about who controls Tata Sons.
A thread. 🧵
Pics from happier times with my friend Payal Mehta, who passed away this morning.
For the past few days, Payal kept telling me that she would spend the next year focusing on her health and getting fit before the Gujarat elections. She had so many plans.
In the last two years, especially after her stroke, every time she felt uneasy, we would rush her to the hospital. She was terrified of the procedures, but she kept overcoming every hurdle. She was a fighter who just wanted to live, work and earn her place.
She had just completed 10 days of Paryushan fasting on Thursday, maintaining a strict diet. She was so determined to take care of herself.
She loved Parliament. She would stay back till the gates closed and be back the next morning before the MPs arrived. She loved the rules, the politics and the chaos. It was where she belonged.
She bid goodbye to the world from the city she truly loved, surrounded by the family she always watched out for. Mumbai gave her the wings to build a career from scratch, despite all the curveballs life threw at her.
She loved Ganpati and visited Lalbaugcha Raja and Dagdusheth every year. For her birthday this Tuesday, she had planned to take her mother and sister for darshan, especially after the recent loss of her father.
I have rarely known anyone who answered every call and remembered everyone by name. VIP or staff, it made no difference to her. She saw people as people, not contacts.
Tough on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and completely unpretentious. A rockstar professional and a truly caring friend.
Will miss her terribly.
There's a small window in life when your parents are healthy, your children are little, and everyone is happy and together. It feels like it will last forever, it won’t. Cherish every moment of it.
If crimes could be ranked, this is among the worst possible. How coldly calculative and cruel one must be to do this? This is not a crime of passion or rage or whipped up hatred or even entrenched patriarchy. This is purely a crime of inhumanity.
And the amazing part is that this horrible, unimaginable crime is just a news footnote in our ‘greatest civilisation on the planet’. The systems will make sure this keeps happening because the bureaucracy-politician-capital-media nexus incentivises lack of morality.
