BREAKING: YouTube no longer has a “Covid-19” policy but an expanded policy to ban *any* “medical misinformation” that contradicts WHO or local health authorities (like CDC) regarding substances and prevention, treatment, or denial of health conditions.

BEFORE/AFTER TODAY:
End of days
We should not be promoting this technology with words such as ‘biggest update’ or ‘simply’ or ‘analyse it for you’
Statistics & data science is a profession requiring substantial training at degree level(s) - there is rarely anything simple or automated about it
Reading a recent review appraising #MachineLearning models in a particular clinical area.
Abstract concludes models showed 'outstanding' performance
Delve into the Results, 16/18 were rated at high risk of bias...hmmm not so 'outstanding' then. 🙄

Fantastic account of a battle in interpreting medical papers between Prof. Harvey Risch of Yale and an AI.
If Risch is John Henry & the AI is the steam-powered rock drilling machine, let's just say the folk story needs re-writing for the modern age.

“Especially when it comes to clinical applications, producing text or images that are convincing is not the same as producing material that is correct, safe, and grounded in scientific evidence.”
What must we do nationally to reap the benefits and avoid the risks of AI in healthcare? Botton line: We need a national plan and not leave it to chance. New piece in the MJA with @dhansen35 and @karinv

I agree @smh, innumeracy has led to covid-19 misinformation but authorities have been guilty of this too. I wrote about it last year:
"The collective statistical illiteracy has resulted in serious consequences for health,” said Gigerenzer. https://t.co/29QiHr2yZM
📢The 2021 #ImpactFactor for @CMAJ is *16.859*
It's more than doubled.
Huge thanks & congrats to our authors, peer reviewers, associate editors, statisticians, and the CMAJ Group's incredibly hard-working editorial & production staff🙏🏼 https://t.co/IwE2qq3kky
James Robins and colleagues receive the Rousseeuw Prize for Statistics 2022.
The prize, worth 1 million dollars, rewards excellence in statistical research which has a significant impact on everyday life.
The team of laureates "helped launch a causal revolution in statistics."
Too many systematic reviews of #MachineLearning prediction models conclude they show great promise, but then proceed to say there were significant limitations due to tiny sample sizes, poor methods, no (meaningful) validation, poor reporting, all at high risk of bias. Go figure!
It’s official!
Today we are pleased to announce that nearly one year after stepping up as interim editor in chief of CMAJ, Dr. Kirsten Patrick has been named to the role permanently.
Looking forward to your continued leadership @KirstyPatrick !

COVID-19: Gain-of-function research has caused over 5 million deaths. The WHO and the United Nations should issue a call to stop all gain-of-function research permanently. The Lancet rejected my letter about this but has a conflict of interest. https://t.co/0UjHhaTr89
