JD Vance’s new book has a chapter on economics, and he basically spends it blaming the concepts of capitalism and markets for everything he doesn’t like, including low birth rates and opioid addiction.

This is exactly what academic leftists do. They don’t actually defend their own economic ideas and explain exactly how they would make life better. With Vance, you’re just supposed to infer that fewer Americans would die of overdoses if we ended free trade and household appliances because more expensive. Or that capitalism leads to fewer children, even though fertility has collapsed everywhere.

As with leftists, for Vance “capitalism” is just a boogeyman for anything that goes wrong in the world.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian named their “progressive” show The Young Turks — the same name as the Ottoman movement that began with promises of liberty in 1908 and delivered death marches, state-sponsored rape, and the extermination of 1.5 million Armenians.

This day (July 3) in 1908, Ottoman officers including Enver Bey (pictured) forced the Sultan to restore the constitution, initially raising hopes among Armenians and other minorities. Those hopes died fast.

After humiliating defeats in the Balkan Wars, the Young Turks embraced extreme Turkish nationalism. Enver helped seize power in a 1913 coup. When World War I began, he launched a reckless winter offensive at Sarıkamış that killed up to 90,000 of his own troops to the cold. He blamed the Armenians anyway — even though one had carried the wounded Enver to safety on his back.

That lie became Ottoman Turkish policy. Armenian soldiers were disarmed and massacred. On April 24, 1915, hundreds of Armenian intellectuals in Constantinople were rounded up and murdered. The “temporary deportation” that followed was a death sentence: columns of women, children, and the elderly force-marched into the Syrian desert under Enver’s Special Organization death squads. They were raped, girls kidnapped into slavery, villages burned with people inside, and survivors finished off in camps like Deir ez-Zor.

After the war, Ottoman courts convicted the Young Turk leaders in absentia for these crimes. Enver fled.

The Young Turks turned revolution into industrialized extermination.

Just five days ago, Israel’s cabinet unanimously recognized the Armenian Genocide as a moral duty and rejected denial. The sick irony is a “progressive” show named after the perpetrators of that genocide now spends obsessive time demonizing the world’s only Jewish state.

Naming a show after the Young Turks isn’t bold. It’s appalling.

There is lots of rage about this NYT oped over on Bluesky. I find that the attitude on there is not “This is an opinion is disagree with.” Rather it is: “This is an invalid opinion that never should have been given a platform, written by a person devoid of character, promoted by a group of people whose motives are suspect and who are blind to their own egregious biases.”

The notion that an opinion section should publish a range of opinions is not even up for consideration. It should only publish the correct opinions. And in particular, it should never further narratives that do not center the most vulnerable demographics as the only which are deserving of sympathy or demands for societal change in their favor.

They openly state that the key to victory is to begin the match by cursing Christians and Jews.

Before each match, the team gathers to recite Quranic passages calling Christians and Jews infidels under Allah’s wrath.

Coptic Christians make up 15% of Egypt’s population, but they are not allowed to be part of the national team.

For some reason, FIFA thinks this is ok.
