I’m an outsider to WordPress now but I think it’s safe to say that it will now become more and more centralized from here out, which is ultimately damaging to an OS ecosystem. If I were any outside entity with a lot of WP exposure I’d be making plans on how to limit it.
"Matt, don't turn into a mad king. I hold your work on WordPress in the highest esteem. And I recognize the temptation of gratitude grievances. But that must remain a moral critique, not a commercial crusade." https://t.co/YcRN31M2RA
@mikemcalister@JS_Zao@ollie_wp I can’t remember where I gave up but would totally keep going if there’s a path. Iirc setting my own color scheme was a bit challenging (vs choosing from one of a few pre-builts) and also getting some basic homepage examples implemented that I could edit.
Have tried using WordPress for a new site, using default themes as well as several others. I don’t even know how to get the absolute basics setup. Probably going to do this site in a different platform.
@jeffr0@kovshenin @schutzsmith @post_status@wpcandy I met WordPress in 2008, got serious in 2010, went full time in 2011, started PS in 2013, did it full time in 2015, and sold it in 2020/2021. We are indeed old.
@d_r_e_w@extendifyinc Is this an actual product I can use somewhere? It looks good but the landing page is just for a $499/mo b2b product for hosting white labelers. Would love to try the onboarding flow it showcases though.
@ferrants I appreciate your response but I did WordPress work professionally for many years beginning in 2011 and ran an industry trade org for 5+ years. I’ve built hundreds of WP sites, and that’s not the point of what I’m saying.
@JS_Zao@ollie_wp Still rooting for Mike and Ollie. I think part of it had to do with the bizarre req to separate onboarding plugin from theme. I still tried for a while and couldn’t so I gave up.
