@Mrhira@valuetainment If, like Trump, our leaders threatened their political opponents with the death penalty, or took away broadcasting licenses from critical media, I'd be worried, but I think I can live with my car beeping when I look away for more than six seconds while driving.

You do have the richest billionaires though. Enjoy them during your brief lifespan :)
@ClockDying@JamesSurowiecki But now they'll have to win against a referee who knows that FIFA want the US to win at all cost, even tearing up its own rulebook.
@JamesSurowiecki That's basically what the coach and the players said. This is the federation, doing what it has to do in the face of blatant corruption.
@DriveByGeek@tombogert Maybe don't trust pictures on the internet. The last time this happened on a world cup was in 1962. It was farcical corruption then, and it's farcical corruption now.
@sheal@HenryBushnell Yes. You're making my point for me, as these are the two most marketable players of this generation. But the Ronaldo decision was made before the world cup, and the Messi decision was a bad call made by a referee, not FIFA tearing up its own rules.
@thomas_taistra@WhiteHouse The last time it happened at a world cup was in 1966, when FIFA did it for Brazil's star player. It was corrupt then and it is corrupt now.
@sheal@HenryBushnell Come on, this wouldn't ever happen for some random player from some random team. This is the special FIFA VIP treatment and it stinks. Good for the match though.
@DiscussOrDivide@NateSilver538 You've just financed a genocide and lost a war against a medieval theocracy. Being proud is just delusional at this point.
@retrophisch Agreed. Just remove a player from each team every 5 minutes until there's a goal. After half an hour, remove the goal keepers. Will be exciting to watch and it won't last too long.
@somenuso@the_jefferymead It's a label that means completely different things to different people, making it useful to scare the simple-minded of proven policies that would greatly benefit them - like universal health care.
