Winter hiking is often muddy + wet! Walking around mud on a trail can damage sensitive plants, make the trail wider & produce drainage problems.
Best thing to do is wear sturdy shoes & walk right through the the mud to avoid expanding the muddy area.

@choo_ek this doesn’t deter me, a health care worker with history of anaphylaxis (tree nuts), from getting vaccinated when my spot opens up. i refilled my epi pen prescription and trust that OHSU nurses and docs will swoop in to help if needed.
@awesomEmilia i was in a meeting this afternoon that included talk about our hospital's covid surge plans, and it's getting scary 😨not to mention pivoting in outpatient rehab to treat the long-covid patients who are going to be dealing with life-altering symptoms for who knows how long.
After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.
We have so many people who lack even the most basic, elementary school-level science literacy in this country, who cite "decreased oxygen intake" or "carbon dioxide retention" as a reason it to not wear a mask in public.
