@griptmedia Not only does antisocial behaviour go unchecked, but the elected local representatives actually deflect by trying to blame our society. You’ll never hear them calling for tougher sentences or more prison spaces - you’ll only hear them making excuses for thugs. 2/
@griptmedia Voting has consequences. It’s no coincidence that Dublin Central is in a slow decline. Footpaths & roads (including the sacred bus lanes) are falling apart, there’s litter everywhere. Basic maintenance completely neglected because money is being burned on god knows what instead.
@EamonRyan You contradict yourself - you say new roads increase road deaths and then go on to argue against the M20. The existing N20 isn’t fit for purpose, it’s dangerous. A new motorway would be much safer. It’s a statistical fact.
@RayMcAdam I emailed your predecessor (@Paschald) asking if he personally supported the building of Cabra station. I also asked if there was a govt commitment to funding it (something he should be able to answer as a minister). He didn’t provide any comment, he redirected me to the NTA.
Tax on personal income has resulted in revenues for government trebling over the past 15 years. @TaxFoundation ranks Ireland's personal tax regime as the second worst in the OECD.
Why have people put up with a regime that was put in place 18 years ago to address a fiscal crisis that was long ago solved?
@Marie97351146@danobrien20 Prudent in squeezing workers for every last euro. Not at all prudent with spending. The most shocking part is we have no infrastructure to show for all the spending
@thejournal_ie The existing policy is resulting in half a parking space per house in areas not served by decent public transport. This is the very definition of a policy that’s failing people & making life harder. It’s what happens when you blindly put ideology over common sense & practicality.
@JohnOBrennan2@Stephenodea7 Your original post says we have a highly distributionist welfare model and then you go on to say it’s untrue to say that too many people are living off state funding. This seems like a contradiction..
@Casey5122dark@ExCllrRedmond The deposit return scheme for cans and bottles is another tax of sorts. They’re taking in tens of millions of euro per year due to unreturned containers.
This is a must read from @davidmcw “Is Ireland the worst run country in Europe?”
The figures in this article are mind blowing . No accountability in the Senior echelons of Public Service. No wonder people are angry. #fuelprotests
@VirginMediaNews It’s crystal clear that this govt is addicted to high taxation. The recent “targeted measures” mantra is their way of avoiding any sort of tax cut - they will continue to squeeze people to breaking point & then play god deciding who gets a bit of respite in the form of a payment.
@declanganley “Targeted measures” is the government saying they don’t want reduce the excessive taxation on fuel and energy that’s crippling businesses and people from every walk of life. They want to keep the taxes high and give relief payments to the bare minimum of groups.
@KeithMillsD7 Is everyone talking about the same thing here? A fuel tax reduction and/or a tax cap is something I’m in favour of. A fuel price cap is very different to a fuel tax cap. A fuel price cap is not a route we should go down IMO.
@irishexaminer A fuel price cap would be insane. Excessive taxation on energy needs to be reduced though. Never ending carbon tax increases have caused people and businesses to reach breaking point. More increases are planned! They must shelve further increases and existing cut carbon tax.
