😮This document sets out how business rates could be devolved to Mayors, in a plan to be unveiled in the Budget

🔬But it's a VERY small amount of cash at stake. What they’re actually doing is withdrawing specific central government grants, and replacing them with business rate retention, but critically, initially to the same value initially, so it’s revenue neutral. Almost all additional income is clawed back through a Treasury tariff.

📅 There could be more money in future - but the leaked doc slides offer mayors 20% of business rates +growth+ over a baseline AND subject to a clawback levy. So we’re talking in future about tens, maybe only single digit millions.
