@CallMeMoprah Do you teach in SPED? A song sung all the time by a student with Autism might object to you singing it because he views it as “his” song to sing. Not because he was trying to be rude. Perhaps you could suggest to sing it together. Your voice is lovely.
Since a lot of us are starting remotely in the fall, here's something you probably aren't hearing from enough people.
Don't learn all the tech tools.
Identify the essential processes you need to facilitate, and then find the fewest tools you can to fill those needs.
Teachers will be like, "Standards-based grading is too complicated."
Then their syllabus is like, "Quizzes are 10%, HW 20%, tests 50%, with up to 10 pts. extra credit, and one pass to forgive a late score but only on every other Tuesday if you turn it in with your left hand."
Zoom question: Is it possible to set up empty breakout rooms, then let participants choose which one they go to? I get how to assign participants, but I want to let participants go to the one they want based on topic. Possible?

Schools around the state will turn on their stadium lights at 8:20 p.m. Friday to honor the class of 2020. We'll take part by turning on the Lampson Stadium lights for 20 minutes. This is not a live event to attend, but a way to recognize our senior student-athletes. #BeTheLight
Class of 2020, we can continue to hope for a traditional grad ceremony, but in the meantime @AWSP_Principals and @J_Renaissance will make sure your school is planning w/ you a personal & incredible virtual graduation. More info coming soon! #createhope#sacreddiploma@AWSLeaders
One of my schools has started playing a “Masked Singer” game using FlipGrid while we’re ~*distance learning*~. Teachers are posting masked videos and kids are making videos replying with who they think the teacher is. IT’S THE CUTEST THING IN THE WORLD. 😭
Can someone point me to a resource that offers tips and best practices for using videoconferencing tools with students? Thinking about guidelines for helping Ts avoid common problems, using the tools in the best way, etc. Specifically for educators, if possible?
Folks,
More improvements over the last two days to keep Padlet fast and reliable. We've made a lot of progress. Compared to yesterday, we are 2x faster today. Compared to last week, 10x.
This is 100% of our focus right now. Thanks for bearing with us.
What systems are you using for keeping online learning organized? Are you on one single platform? How are you posting announcements, collecting assignments, etc.?
Big shout out to @SteveWyborney His number sense routines like Esti-Mysteries are perfect for keeping students engaged in math while they are at home. I recorded a routine on zoom to share with my intervention students.

"We're happy to help our families in the Tri-Cities community be able to have some comfort that there will be food for their families, and to know that we're in this together," said Sam Shick, Nutrition Services director. More: https://t.co/LdP6Bp6zA7
