@grip_edu@mburnsmath I respectfully disagree. When learning a skill, I'd rather a student practice on small numbers to master the skill, and then try on larger numbers. When I taught my son how to golf, we focused on 3 foot putts and still going through the proper steps before doing 20 foot putts.
@apharradine I see it as either 4/6 or simplified as 2/3. When I look at it, the bold box is the whole. So the whole has been cut in 6ths, with 4 of them shaded.
Students, teachers, and schools lose whenever mathematics is used for political gain and divisiveness.

I’d really be interested to see what math books are being rejected. I use a variety of math curriculum for K-5 and have never seen anything political in them, let alone CRT
@pwharris Not the fastest strategy, but I decided to practice decomposing numbers. I decomposed 18 into a 10 and an 8. 4.5 x 10 = 45. For 8 x 4.5 I doubled and halved to do 4 x 9 = 36. 45+36=81
@pwharris I broke it into number bonds, but shifted a 10 in the 162 to make it simpler. This is a technique I picked up from @gregtangmath last year, and it’s how I now teach subtraction with regrouping
Heavy lifting time.
"In math, the differences were more pronounced, NWEA found, with achievement declines of up to 17 points for Black, Latino and Native American students, about twice the fall of White and Asian American students."

I wanted to apologize for being AWOL for the bast 3-4 months. Was hit with a serious case of pneumonia and pericarditis in April, and missed the last 2 months of school. Back on my feet now, and looking forward to interacting with my favorite PLC!
