Prescribed psychotropic drug withdrawal and iatrogenesis can be so complex, disabling & misunderstood that it should be a specialized field in medicine.
I've been practicing psychiatry for 38 years. I love my job, my peers, and my patients. But I've come to the conclusion that I'm participating in the biggest intellectual scam of this era. We claim to be a science, but have no understanding how thought or behavior is generated./1
I take an antidepressant daily - not because it is beneficial but because I am unable to cease it abruptly. To do so would be intolerable and life threatening. My prescribers did not inform me of these risks and they were unable to help me taper safely. #InformedConsent#WMHD
Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD) has been added to the SNOMED diagnostic codes internationally so that it can now be recorded by doctors as a diagnosis. Hopefully this will help the system to determine the full extent of the issue. @PSSDNetwork@DrDavidHealy@TonyAvery1
😳 “In double-blind randomised controlled trials of fluoxetine discontinuation 50% of people on average experienced withdrawal effects…Fluoxetine withdrawal effects can be delayed by weeks after stopping because of the long elimination half-life…the frequency of withdrawal…1/2
@dystopian_DU@markhoro It took my 5 years to recover from Protracted Withdrawal. I have been extremely sick. Please, they should definitely not be over-the-counter drugs. It’s bad enough they are even prescription drugs!
@ShazaMichelle It is a great question Shaza. My follow on genuine question is-Is it true that fast tapers/ cold turkey usually result in more severe symptoms? I know of someone who felt so terrible they held for a whole year during their taper.
@markhoro Let’s hope RANZCP will take it on board we are so far behind in Australia! We’d love you to come back Mark even for a visit to promote your ground breaking work. There are long term suffers from bad unethical tapers in all corners of the world. We all need this book.Thank you 🙏
Hi, I'm a PhD student focusing on harm in UK mental health services, and I would like to hear about your experiences. (Mental health services includes NHS services, & services provided by charities, companies and other orgs). Currently there is a limited understanding of what 1/
@joeymarinoactor My heart goes out to you all. I am so sorry. Joey was so incredibly brave in helping spread the word for us all. These drugs are responsible for so much horrific suffering. When will the world wake up to this? Joey will never be forgotten, may he now rest xxx
@mohitb13 @wdpsychiatry Absolutely I’m coming up to 5 years off and still have withdrawal symptoms. Absolutely no accountability for the brain injuries that so many have to endure.
Being forcibly injected with a long-acting form of an antipsychotic has to be one of the most horrendous acts of poisoning a human being that one can possibly imagine. The fact that these poisonings are routinely taking place in our society is barbaric and entirely unacceptable.

@Antidepressed1@chrisaikenmd That’s what I’m thinking, benzos acutely helped me, how effective is propanol is something I wonder at treating it and what are ways of resolving it so people don’t miss months and years of their life to akathisia, it leads to prescribing cascades like in my case with the lexapro
@Antidepressed1@chrisaikenmd If there’s safe ways of resolving it, I’m all on deck but I’d like to know as it should be something that is addressed and solved immediately when it occurs. These big pharma companies should be funding this kind of research as a penalty for not perfecting their craft
Psy systems said my emotions were too big and out of control, my altered states too strange and dangerous.
But the thing is, like many others, my experiences of injustice have been big, out of control, strange & dangerous.
@melina_manolas Maybe @elonmusk is one of the many who has experience of severe iatrogenic harm, or even side effect of Akathisia /suiciality. Once experienced directly/indirectly, it is very hard to see them in a positive light, particularly with limited medical support for these conditions.
