@mhashemi@stolee@github I learned that if I don’t have a critique about something, then I am consuming too quickly. TBH I run into this all the time with my job (specifically peer reviewing research) but now I have the words for the phenomenon. Thanks!
@TaliaRinger I had babies at 29 and 33, moved universities at 30, tenured at 34. My advice is to live the life you want and not preemptively predict the impact on the tenure situation. My spouse and I take on more/less of the household stuff based on the cadence of our work schedules.
@HilaCodes@heathercmiller@clegoues Appliqué might fit the bill here. Cut shapes from fabric. Hand stitch onto other fabric (or machine blanket stitch if yours is fancy). Make pillows.
Wrapping up. First, just because I (or anyone else) didn't quit in the face of professional bullying doesn't retroactively mean it wasn't bullying. It was, even though I'm still here. I was born stubborn. Science would be better if you didn't have to be born stubborn to stay. 7/
Yesterday @heckman_sarah and I got to watch the new Dr. Kai Presler-Marshall successfully defend his dissertation. It was a joyful day with an entirely in-person doctoral committee! Congratulations Kai, @BowdoinCollege is lucky to have you!
Hey @ICSEconf, DYK there are >100 newcomers attending #icse2022 in-person in Pittsburgh this year? Help me and my newcomers co-chair @kstolee crowdsource in-person conference tips for all our new colleagues. What advice would you give them? (we'll be sharing in a google doc.)
@clegoues@TaliaRinger @chrisparnin for the ICSE in question, I did not find the childcare options to be of practical value. It was the parent's responsibility to find a local, trustworthy childcare provider. The reimbursement was too small to bother with. So, my spouse was childcare.
