His story was that he valued the actual use of an airbrush over using Photoshop to do the same task. And that's fair. We get to make those choices. So he picked a thing that he could continue to have fun with airbrushes. Keep in mind he's also a designer and he makes the toys, he doesn't just paint them.
I used airbrushes for illustration before and after PS came online. I did transition to using PS instead of the airbrush for anything that it was applicable to. But you know what? You can't paint art on the side of a van with PS. Or paint a tshirt or the back of a jean jacket. Or a toy.
I'm just thinking out loud here.
The main thrust of AI generative software by the big players and corporations is to displace people. To use the software instead of hiring human creatives. And we can all agree that's not a good thing.
I worry that the adoption of AI in history departments will encourage the unscientific illusion of an objective, universal history and damage the science of ‘history from below’ even more than ‘modern statistical methods’ that gave us the nonsense of Chenoweth’s ‘3.5% rule.’

From 1966 to 2025 we dropped sterile flies over South America that ate screwworm and thus prevented them from spreading, but the le epic efficient cracked coders at DOGE thought this was a silly waste of the ~0 dollars it cost us.
So many pieces of media portray 12-13 year olds as older or more mature than they are. It's refreshing to see the witch hat girls seem so young sometimes. They're still so little.
Capitalism built a system where doing the right thing is treated like bad business. We can’t have sustainable energy because it threatens the oil industry. We can’t have healthcare because it threatens insurance. We can’t have peace because it threatens the weapons industry.
Ashanti architecture belongs on the top 10 list of the most sophisticated and beautiful traditional African architectural styles.
The houses were built with timber frames covered in mud plaster, steep thatched roofs, elevated floors, and richly decorated walls filled with symbolic designs. These motifs were one of the most distinctive features of Asante architecture. They were not merely decorative; they carried symbolic, philosophical, religious, and cultural meanings.
Sadly, most Asante towns, including Kumasi, were devastated during the long wars against the British in the nineteenth century. Many palaces, public buildings, and elite residences were destroyed and never rebuilt in their original form. After the wars, Asante society gradually moved away from the old architectural tradition.
For anyone interested in learning more about Ashanti architecture, I recommend reading Asante Traditional Buildings (2021 Edition), Ghana Museums and Monuments Board & UNESCO. Foreword by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Published under the UNESCO World Heritage programme.
Water is not a commodity. It is a birthright. It belongs to the earth, to other species, and to future generations. No corporation has the right to control it.
the decline in media literacy is killing people’s ability to engage with film and television through a sociological lens.
everything gets reduced to “i liked it” or “i didn’t like it” instead of asking what the story is saying about society, power, culture, class, gender, identity, or human behavior.
Learned that the total war waged against Cuba, spoken about in terms of economic sabotage, also can sometimes mask that it’s an attack on Cuba’s public services in general — especially since 50% of Cuba’s state budget goes towards health (26%) and education (24%).
Failure to acknowledge the broader, well-documented impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the human body is detrimental to advocacy and scientific accuracy. Denying there is vast evidence of biological damage visible through imaging, biopsy and autopsy is pseudoscience.
It is staggering to me that people are willing to give up a livable planet just to avoid the inconvenience of having to think for themselves.

🦔UC Berkeley's computer science department just posted its worst failure rates in years. 35.3% of CS 10 students got F's in spring 2026, up from under 10% in prior semesters. Professor Dan Garcia says the primary driver is a "vast increase in academic dishonesty" through LLMs. Students use AI to complete assignments, never learn the material, then fail exams. His office hours, once full, are now empty.
My Take
Companies are firing experienced engineers while the pipeline that produces new ones is being gutted by the same technology. Students use AI to bypass the hard part of learning, show up to exams without the understanding, and fail. One professor discovered a student's linear algebra class had an "open AI" policy for homework and exams. That student then couldn't do basic linear algebra in the next course.
Both ends of the workforce are eroding at the same time. Senior engineers are getting cut to fund AI spending. Junior engineers are graduating without the skills because AI did their coursework. And the companies spending trillions on these tools haven't connected those two facts yet.
