My favorite Mike Ditka quote:
To succeed in life you gotta have three main things. The first is attitude: That's basically the only thing you can control. If you have a bad attitude, you're not gonna do very well when you get a chance. The second is character: what you stand for, what you believe in, knowing right from wrong. And then there's enthusiasm: You have to like what you do.
You have to make a commitment to what you're doing. If you don't like something, then heck, don't do it--don't do it! If you settle for defeat, you're gonna be defeated. If you settle for mediocrity, you're gonna be mediocre. If you're gonna play, you gotta play to win.
NFL legend Mike Ditka, who revolutionized the tight end position before becoming the head coach of the world champion 1985 Bears and a towering figure in the city of Chicago, has passed away, his family announced. He was 86.
Mike Ditka was scheduled to sing the seventh inning stretch on July 5th, 1998. This was the year that Harry Caray died and the “guest conductor” was new at Wrigley Field. Ditka got stuck in traffic and was running late. By the time the top of the seventh ended, Ditka was still not there and Steve Stone and Chip Caray stalled for time. Finally Ditka busts into the press box, grabs the mic, and screams Take Me Out To The Ball Game in twenty two seconds! Organist Gary Pressy could barely keep up! The crowd roared with approval! R.I.P. Mike Ditka
It’s with a heavy heart that I’m sharing the Ditka family has announced the passing of Mike Ditka this morning.
Da Coach. Hall of Famer. The heartbeat of the ’85 Bears and a Super Bowl champion. Chicago won’t be the same.
Prayers to Diana and the family.
RIP, Coach. 🐻⬇️
Here’s a statement from the family:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike Ditka. While the world knew Mike as a Hall of Fame football player, legendary coach, and leader of the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl XX championship team, we knew him as the heart of our family. Mike will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever.
With love and gratitude, The Ditka Family
"Ben Johnson's job in Chicago is Extreme QB Makeover. The talent is all there, but they've gotta renovate the house."
@colincowherd lays out the blueprint for Caleb Williams in Year 2.
It is impossible to imagine the new staff doing the same thing. For all the diva shade I’m incredibly impressed at how Caleb has acquitted himself to try to be the best of all time.
I’m very excited to see him with this coaching staff. 🐻⬇️
It’s completely bananas to think that the gift of a #1 overall pick would get zero mentorship/coaching off the field.
Now knowing this it is rather remarkable how Caleb was in bringing the Bears back in 4th qtrs last year. Even the disaster of the WAS game was a 4th Q comeback.
It says in here that Williams told his father he got no instruction on what film to watch from his coaches and he’d watch alone.
If last season was Williams completely left to his own devices trying to assimilate into the league, I can’t wait to see what this year under Ben Johnson holds for him.
