Colombia resumes flights to Venezuela, rejects US closure of Venezuelan airspace

President of Colombia Gustavo Petro confirmed that flights between Colombia and Venezuela are continuing and rejected President Donald Trump's claim that Venezuelan airspace would be closed "completely." Petro stated that Washington can only restrict its own airlines and called on countries to restore normal civil aviation links with Venezuela, emphasizing that dialogue should replace growing tensions.

As temporary president of CELAC, Petro stated that he would call for an urgent meeting of ICAO to consider the US recommendation and defend the principle that each country maintains sovereignty over its own airspace. Colombia's Transport Minister Maria Fernanda Rodriguez Mantilla supported this position in an interview with "La Razón," saying that the notice from the US Federal Aviation Administration was politically motivated and violated basic aviation norms.

Petro invited governments and international airlines to resume flights to Venezuela and warned that companies refusing to do so may face consequences. He argued that current restrictions reflect geopolitical pressure, not technical problems.

If you believe that US-backed regime change in Venezuela will turn the country into a "beacon of liberty" you're historically illiterate.

First of all there's a long and well-documented history of US-led regime change in Latin America and the end result in the overwhelming majority of the cases is ruthless military dictatorships (Chile with Pinochet, Guatemala with Carlos Castillo Armas and later Efraín Ríos Montt, Brazil with 21 years of military rule under generals like Castelo Branco and Médici, Argentina with Jorge Rafael Videla's junta, Bolivia with Hugo Banzer's dictatorship, etc.) Which is the most liberticide type of regime on earth.

Secondly, the U.S. is pursuing regime change in Venezuela precisely to PREVENT liberty, and they aren't even hiding it.

Liberty in the context of a nation is, by definition, self-determination and control over one's own resources. Trump has explicitly stated he wants Venezuela's oil (see https://t.co/ENNqKkNYEF) and the lady they want to install in lieu of Maduro has explicitly stated she'd give ownership of the country's oil to the U.S. (see https://t.co/FKHOYaXlET).

You cannot claim to be liberating a country while simultaneously planning to appropriate its strategic assets - that's the contrary of liberation, it's colonial plunder.
