Management of Hypertension in pregnancy

Hyperkalemia Management:

1. IV calcium:
Stabilizes the cardiac membrane when significant ECG changes are present.

2. IV insulin + glucose:
Rapidly shifts K⁺ into cells.

3. Nebulized salbutamol:
Promotes intracellular K⁺ shift; used as an adjunct.

4. Remove K⁺ from the body:
⏹️ Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate or patiromer
⏹️ Loop diuretics when appropriate
⏹️ Dialysis when indicated

5. Address the cause:
Review potassium-raising drugs, including ACE inhibitors/ARBs, MRAs, NSAIDs and potassium supplements.

Calcium resonium is no longer routinely recommended for acute hyperkalemia.
