@AndrewStoeten Also BTW on this team that you want to give a even longer leash to than the 4 months of mediocre play in hopes they can turn it around, 2 players (Valenzuela and Clase) have a positive WAR stemming from 'sale' trades of free agents back in 2024
@AndrewStoeten What's the highest percentage a potential prospect would ever be in putting up a positive war? You hope to get enough lottery tickets to incrementally build up depth so when your team is a legit contender some of those guys are useful...its not that complicated
@AndrewStoeten Not you or I or anyone knows what any of these guys returns are, or what any prospects we'd get back end up being down the road..holding out hope for a 1 in 10 chance at maybe making the playoffs is beyond stupid
@JDBunkis If he's scratched the game before his return game against the Leafs the combined forces of those impacts may lead to like an 8 goal game for him...
@WolstatSun Another way of saying it is, what exactly do you think the ceiling is of Barnes being the best player with all of our 2027-2033 first rounders? No free agents willingly come here, and how many players would force a trade to Toronto?
@WolstatSun The fact Kawhi wants to sign in Toronto itself is the home run; the significant risk is what really? Losing the chance of being a consistent 50 win team with no top end generational talent to take them over the top? The goal is to win the entire thing, not just 'be in the mix'
@michaelgrange@WolstatSun Is there a reason the framing of this potential trade by the Raptors beat (yourself, @JLew1050 ) has continuously been pessimistic that it will happen, even as its nearing a conclusion? It's almost like the team is making you do this to lower expectations/assets to give up
@AndrewStoeten Fair...there are people that are invested in and more passionate every game as opposed to just evaluating the season at the end of the team as a whole...and you yourself write articles dissecting roster minir moves so I'd say saying it's "dumb" to be mad at this is a tad rich
@AndrewStoeten You're kidding right? Based on that logic then anyone currently on the team (including Vladdy, whose OBP is a team high 37.2%) you'd have bunted in that situation? In fact, you'd have anyone in the league bunt unless their OBP > .500, which I know you don't believe
@JDBunkis BJ Ryan's first season is probably up there, but him and Varland so far this year are probably at the top since the Ward year (who was/is the gold standard)
@SamAMcKee I know but with the state of the bullpen I'd rather hope Yesavage finds what's been missing so far vs having Yariel come in with the bases loaded when he's been brutal so far this year
