An idea to improve democracy in India. Would love to have your thoughts.

What if every "major law" passed by the Government also required public approval through a secure online vote?

Here's how it could work:
Suppose a ruling coalition came to power with:
Party A: 35% vote share
Party B: 12%
Party C: 8%
Their combined electoral mandate = 55%. (Similary for a single party Government).
Now, any major law the Parliament pass would come into force "only if it receives approval from at least 55% of eligible voters".
Why this could help:
Better accountability: Governments would have to convince the public, not just Parliament.
Another major benefit this would have, it will DISCOURAGE DEFECTIONS.
Yes, how? Suppose, if another party with a 6% vote share joins the coalition after the election, the coalition's mandate becomes 61% in our example. That means future major laws would now need 61% public approval, making defections increase accountability instead of making lawmaking easier.

Simple principle:
The larger the mandate you claim to have, the greater the public approval you must demonstrate for your laws.
I'm sure there are practical challenges (security, turnout, emergencies, etc.), but as a constitutional idea, do you think this would strengthen democracy?What am I missing? Would you support or oppose such a system, and why?

The Government's admission in court that E20 blending is an experiment shows that earlier it hid this fact from public. That's why accountability to the public even after elections is important,this makes my below policy suggestion a very promising step in improving democracy.

A minor girl was kidnapped on 23.06.2026 from Bilgram by Rahul Tiwari, Priya (wife of Prashant) & Guddu.

Family begged at the station repeatedly but police did NOTHING.

On 28.06.2026, the girl was found in horrific condition pants drenched in blood.

हरदोई में राहुल तिवारी और उसके साथियों ने 13 साल की एक दलित बच्ची को किडनैप किया। परिजन थाने का चक्कर लगाते रहे लेकिन स्थानीय पुलिस टालमटोल करती रही।

5 दिन बाद घरवालों को बच्ची खून से लथपथ अवस्था में मिली। उसे रक्तश्राव हो रहा था। वह स्वयं अपने पिता के साथ थाने गई लेकिन न तो उसका तत्काल उपचार कराया गया और न ही उसे किसी तरह का संबल दिया गया। जोर देने पर परिजनों के साथ अपमाजनक तरीके से बर्ताव किया गया।

वहीं प्रशासन की हीला-हवाली एवं लापरवाही के कारण बच्ची के साथ ये घिनौना जुल्म करने वाले राहुल तिवारी और उसके साथी अभी तक फरार हैं। यह अत्यंत भयावह है। मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ से हमारी मांग है कि मामले को संज्ञान में लें एवं दोषियों को गिरफ्तार करके उन पर कड़ी कार्रवाई कराएं। चुंकि पीड़िता दलित समुदाय से थी। अतः स्थानीय बिलग्राम थाने के SHO, SI एवं अन्य पुलिसकार्मियों ने इस हृदय विदारक घटना में लापरवाही बरती। इसलिए मुख्यमंत्री SP को निर्देशित कर ऐसे गैर जिम्मेदार पुलिसकर्मियों पर भी कठोर कार्रवाई सुनिश्चित करें। बच्चियों के साथ ये ज्यादती बर्दाश्त नहीं की जाएगी।
