Jagat Ram wishes the video hadn't gone viral. Shit happens. This is not the first time a poor man has been slapped. People are rude and rich people are worse. It's not a "man bites dog" story. It should not have gone viral. Jagat Rams are bashed in Bullu's World. Every day.

It's not Jagat Ram's world. The security camera footage was shared widely in the society, in fact, in societies across Indira Puram. Tarkeshwar from his team showed him the WhatsApp forward. "You are phamous," he gargled through his mouth full of masala, as he poked Jagat in the stomach with a stick. "Ph se Phamous," he rubbed it in after a spitout.

The video was unlike CCTV footage we often see. Unusually crisp and clear. Full colour. A security guard being slapped around by a society bully, a gym-going, beer-burping boy, the bodybuilding son of a minor builder, with 3 SUVs all bearing 007 numberplates. One of them, a Fortuner, even had a Bond livery. In the video, Jagat could recognise himself. His face, eminently recognisable. He was on the receiving end.

All Jagat could think of was his village in faraway Balia. Everyone has whatsapp these days, he mumbled to himself. And everyone can see and recognise him. His son in 10th, his cousins whose property he saved from the village pradhan. He fought valiantly that day. Armed with only a lathi, he didn't stand down even when Pradhan's main aadmi Parkash aimed a double barrel at him. Both Pradhan and Prakash have whatsapp. His wife, maybe, she wouldn't see all this. But everyone else can. Screw everyone, his son can. And his son's classmates.

"Tower 12, 302," the voice from the Swiggy guy broke Jagat's journey into the noisy mindfield, full of familiar characters laughing at him. "12, 302," Jagat Ram pretended to note something down in the register and lifted the barrier for the delivery boy.

He wouldn't know, Jagat thought. He didn't like the smile on the delivery boy's face from behind the helmet. Maybe he knows, Jagat was again talking to nobody. "Maybe I should avoid seeing people in the eye," he told himself. And he did try his best. That entire evening.

Security guard Jagat Ram returns the next day with a cleaver hidden in his uniform. All security guards have a jacket to ward off the December cold that hasn't arrived this year. He knows exactly when Bullu the brat comes out for a walk. And where he goes. After dinner.

Jagat waits in the hedges just outside the society gate and swoops down on the bulky Bullu from behind. Resistance is futile as the jugular bursts into a fountain. Jagat could smell beer somewhere but maybe it was blood. Nobody knows.

Jagat Ram leaves Bullu's body at the society entrance and walks to the police station with the head. Bullu's face has a grimace, as lifeless as the eyes.

"Hang me," he says, "Here, I give you the strongest excuse to hang me. An evidence that will stand in court. Make a video. Make it viral."

The policemen are afraid as they realise there is a human head in Jagat's left hand. One of the cops takes a ginger step. Jagat Ram throws the cleaver on the ground. All four of them swoop down on him. The fifth, the Inspector In Charge, shoots Jagat in the leg.

"Guard beheads youth, arrested after encounter," the Crimes of India reported. "The accused is a security guard named Jagat Ram. The deceased was identified as Prem Kumar alias Bullu."
