hi, i'm audrey.

in 2020, i built an esports company with 6,000 users.

in 2023, i grew a writing company to $104,000.

in 2024, i scaled to $50,000/mo with client acquisition.

i was sad.

but @fdotinc was the first time i felt that same energy i felt @_buildspace.

this community energizes me.

i didn’t drink a single cup of coffee here,

because the people were my coffee.

it’s true:

when you’re surrounded by great people,

things just happen.

things just… happened :)

its called the shortest film festival.

think of it like a mini hackathon but for filmmakers.

the goal isn't to show off.

it's to actually get you started on making your movie instead of sitting at home thinking about it.

rules are simple:

1. you'll have 5 hrs to make a 3-4 min film.
2. we'll pick the top 4.
3. audience votes for the winner (can't vote for yourself).
4. winner(s) takes home $5k.

it's all about starting, creating, and having fun with other filmmakers.

So many of the best engineers in San Francisco are Canadian, if you talk to the next gen, I feel like a lot of them don't even want to be there, they'd be down to build at home, but they can't, cause it doesn't make any sense, the system doesn't support cutting edge engineering, isn't that crazy?

I'm over there talking to these engineers about this crazy shit they are doing, and then we are talking about restaurants in mississauga and shit

we are producing great engineers, but it doesn't make any sense for them to build here, it's sad man

we need better scaffolding man

and not with like these lame undefined low standards, with high standards, real scaffolding, the best in the world on every dimension

I have been working on this Toronto stuff for a year and a half now. I have been doing my best to understand all of the problem sets, trying to see it from every angle.

I currently do not see a viable path to moving the needle in Toronto or Canada outside of trying to create a world class dual use technology incubator here.

My converations cover many age groups, YIMBYs, NIMBYs, founders, executives, students, from a billionaire, to the dude at Alpha's who makes my shawarma, to someone who can’t make rent.

I have been trying to learn from everyone. Always ready to hear new perspectives.

The only compelling thing I've heard so far to get things going in Canada is to use its growing defense spend to try and bootstrap the technology ecosystem here.
