When the British outlawed making gunpowder in the colonies, Mary Patton hauled her mill over the mountains and kept making it.

She'd learned the trade from her father. When the Crown banned it, Mary and her husband moved the operation deep into the Overmountain frontier, past the Appalachians.

The gunpowder they continued making proved crucial to the Revolution.

In 1780, the Overmountain Men, marched to face Loyalists at Kings Mountain. Mary supplied them with over 500 pounds of her gunpowder. They won a crushing victory that Thomas Jefferson called "the turn of the tide" of the Revolutionary War.

And she was just as sharp in peacetime. After the war she kept making powder and sold it as far as South Carolina, buying up land with the proceeds. By the time she died in 1836, she owned around 1,700 acres.

My post on the indiscriminate, genocidal bombing of Germans during WWII has exposed a critical weakness which I've noted with some despair.

You Whites don't know your own history.

Anglo-Saxons came--originally--from Germany. Northern Germany to be exact, and its still reflected in a major province which is named... Saxony.

Sure, many modern English (and thus Americans) are an Anglo-Celtic blend rather than pure Anglo-Saxon. But it really makes no difference. The terms "Celtic" and "Germanic" are linguistic and cultural more than racial, and there border between the two was never distinct.

There were many Celtic tribes in the land we know as Germany, and many supposedly Germanic tribes had leaders whose names are distinctly Celtic... and vice-versa.

Almost thirty years later, Gunthorp Farms has its own USDA slaughter plant on the farm, because when the plants he needed kept disappearing, he built one. Rick Bayless is his largest customer. His son runs the plant, his daughter runs sales, four generations deep. And when he's not farming, he's in Washington fighting for the family farms that come next.

Here's the part worth being honest about. Greg raises pigs on pasture. Dad and I finish them in barns. We don't see eye to eye on everything, and we didn't pretend to in the barn. But on the big stuff we're in complete agreement: farmers need more markets, not fewer. The packers need real accountability. And the next generation deserves a real shot at building something, because right now the road in is nearly closed.

I have mad respect for a man who spent his whole life creating value for people beyond himself. That's a meaningful life, and it deserves to be recognized.

Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and his wife Glenna adopted Jonah, a Sub-Saharan African boy, in 2012 when he was five. He was one of four Ethiopian children they took in besides their five biological children.

Jonah turned violent. He assaulted his parents in incidents police witnessed firsthand, leading to his arrest and juvenile charges. He repeatedly threatened to kill family members. Siblings found knives he hid under his mattress and in his bedside table. He threatened to chop up a sibling and physically hurt other children in the house.

He was expelled from Liahona Academy for threatening to kill another student and assaulting staff who tried to stop him. After that, no program in the United States would take him. In October 2023 he was charged again with assaulting and threatening to kill a family member during a fight with his father at home.

The family paid for residential programs, tutors, and medical care. Jonah refused to follow the rules or stay in those programs. As an adult he faced felony charges of aggravated assault, drug possession, and lying to police.

Now he is in court demanding retroactive child support, a cash grab through lawyers exploiting the racial alien after years of the family trying to handle his violence, substance abuse, and criminal record privately.

Matt Bevin was arrested and sentenced to 60 days because he refused to keep providing financial documents to an activist family court judge who insisted on making everything public instead of letting the family handle it privately.

The judge said he exercised "poor judgement" by conceal carrying a firearm in a mall, where he was subsequently attacked and thus used his firearm in self defense.
