New article from myself and @alexLpage in @AusJPolSci! We find that PMs reproduce a classless, hetero-masculine, and Anglocentric Australianness on Aus Day/Anzac Day. We'd be super appreciative if you share/rewteet. https://t.co/s1KeYcAGCp
Tomorrow is the last day to score early bird prices to our annual conference at the Crown Plaza, Terrigal 🌴☀️🍹 - get in quick at https://t.co/OcySxQ7BAH
Interesting to see the proportions of Aus workers doing long hours (>40hrs per week) and very short hours (<10 hrs/w) defining in recent years

Even #RBA says wages should grow 3.5%/yr or more: to justify 2.5% inflation target plus >1% prod'y growth. Actual wages growing barely half that fast. Oz in weakest sustained period of wage growth since end of WW2. Govt's call to "be patient and wait for the market" wearing thin
Huge congratulations to the distinguished & esteemed Prof. Mark Bray of @Uni_Newcastle upon being honored at #AIRAANZ2019 with the prestigious Vic Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award.
This 'principle of no double taxation' never applies to workers: they pay income tax, then GST on after-tax income, then other taxes, fees, tolls, etc. after that. As long as the ultimate final incidence is fair, that's not a problem. Govts collect many taxes from many sources
Macneil et al: helpful for practitioners to understand when they're approaching negotiations with very different conceptions of "cooperation"
Need a meeting in the middle of "the cooperation curve"

Hearing from Prof Anna Chapman @CELRL_Melbourne about the experiences of au pairs in Australia, and attempts to define what they do as not-work: "cultural exchange", "pocket money", etc. Result is very low pay and vulnerability #AIRAANZ2019#precarity
Markey and O'Brien: the FWC Sunday penalty rates cut decision had no effect to improve total hours and employment in retail and hospitality with 2 years of data now.

.@kurt_walpole on enterprise bargaining system @AIRAANZ_news - policy failed from outset to strike appropriate relationship between Awards & collective bargaining #AIRAANZ2019
BIG thank you to everyone who came to our sessions reflecting on 10 years of the Fair Work Act across the 3 days. How good is this turnout for early morning on final day??

.@ak_pennington: private sector #collectivebargaining is crumbling and risks sinking below 2% by 2030!
Free-riding problems means the bargaining system is not sustainable.
Dire.

.@ak_pennington: #collectivebargaining decline under Fair Work Act:
- retail and food service sectors particularly affected
- manufacturing in decline
- other industries seeing declining coverage despite employment growth
