MPs disrupted a session in the New Zealand Parliament with a ritual dance

Te Pati Maori MPs performed a traditional Māori dance - Haka in the hall. Thus they protested against the bill to revise the historic Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty, signed 184 years ago between Māori chiefs and the British Crown, is the foundation of Maori rights and their relationship with the state.

The new law could curtail those rights, which has caused sharp resentment among Māori. Despite MPs' protest, the bill passed its first reading.
