🇬🇧 🇯🇵 Prodrive P25

The confusion about seeing these Prodive P25 ultra-exclusive, rally-derived restomod having to get an MOT.
Donor Basis:
Each of the 25 P25 vehicles is built upon an original two-door Subaru Impreza WRX chassis.
Prodrive sources these authentic donor shells to serve as the structural starting point for the project.
1. Retention of Identity
By using a pre-existing, registered chassis, Prodrive avoids the complex and extremely expensive process of "Individual Vehicle Approval" (IVA) that would be required to register a brand-new, scratch-built vehicle for road use.
The DVLA recognizes these vehicles based on their original chassis identity, meaning they are treated as existing cars that have undergone significant modifications.
Because these vehicles are based on original 1990s chassis, their legal status regarding MOTs is governed by the rules for modified vehicles.
Safety and Roadworthiness:
Even though the underlying chassis may be over 40 years old (or approaching that age), the extensive modifications—such as the high-performance engine, sequential gearbox, and specialized suspension—mean the vehicle does not meet the "no substantial change" criteria required for MOT exemption.
Annual Testing:
Because the vehicle has been "substantially changed" from its original specification, it is required to undergo an annual MOT test to ensure it remains safe and roadworthy. Prodrive builds these to meet high engineering standards, ensuring they can pass the necessary inspections to remain legal for road use.
3. "Substantial Change" Policy
The UK government has specific guidance on what constitutes a "substantial change" to a vehicle. If a vehicle is substantially modified (such as changing the engine type or steering/suspension geometry), it loses its historic MOT exemption even if it is old enough to otherwise qualify.
The P25, by nature of its modern engineering, falls into this category, ensuring that it is held to modern safety standards for road operation.
In short, you are essentially driving a heavily upgraded classic Subaru that the UK legal system views as a modified car, not a new manufacturer vehicle.
This allows owners to enjoy the performance of a modern race-bred machine while retaining the legal registration of the classic icon it was built from.

This Dodge Viper is an endurance classic, but it's still got some serious pace in it!
Florent Moulin set a searing pace in the GT Racers and Sportscars to get near the sharp end in the #FOS Times Shootout, reaching the chequered flag in just 48.69secs.
Alongside the likes of Sir Jackie Stewart and Mario Andretti, Disney and Pixar’s Lightning McQueen is ranked amongst the greatest racers ever.
So it’s only natural that many current stars wanted to snap a photo with the Piston Cup legend at #FOS 2026!
