Principles for Naming Your Child in Islam:

1- The name should not contain any association with shirk (polytheism).
2- It should not be one of Allah’s exclusive names, unless preceded by “Abd” (e.g., not “Khaliq,” but “Abdul-Khaliq”).
3- It should not be a name exclusively used by non-Muslims or associated with their religious figures.
4- It should not be a name that praises the person in piety, such as “Taqiy” (the pious), “Zaki” (the pure), etc.
5- It should not be a name associated with known evil, such as “Fir'awn” (Pharaoh) or “Haman.”
6- It should not be a name of devils or Shayatin, like “Iblis” or “Khanzab.”
7- The name should not have negative, humiliating, or degrading meanings.
8- It is preferred that the name has a good and pleasant meaning, as names influence identity and perception.
9- Avoid names that are ambiguous in gender or meaning, to maintain clarity and appropriateness.

Some of these principles are obligatory (haram to violate), while others are discouraged (makrooh).
